Overview
About Me
I'm 34 and in a couple of days I'll be leaving my role as a special education teacher to take on a new role in digital curriculum design.
I love to laugh. Most of my workload is pretty serious and focused. So I like to surround myself with people who are positive, who have a good sense of humor, and like uplifting other human beings.
I recently spent the summer teaching kids parkour and hosting nerf war birthday parties at a place in Lexington called the Urban Ninja Project. I've only gotten 11 feet up the warped wall, but still really enjoy my work and teaching kids risk management in adventure sports.
When I'm not being a ninja (that sounds kind of funny), I am learning code, hanging out at my local makerspace, volunteering in community gardens and children's science museums, gardening, making art, advocating for social justice, and helping new startups build their businesses.
I'm a non smoker. I don't drink much. I'm a pescatarian.
I'm pretty progressive and Christian (but the liberal kind that does interfaith programming and doesn't try to convert gay friends; think kind of like Thomas Merton).
I used to work for an athletic department at a Christian College, so I get along well with young adults and their parents. I also do really well with pets.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm moving to Louisville for a new job and my accommodation fell through. A friend recommended CS, since I am fairly laid back and do a lot of positive work in the community.
She seemed to think this might be a good way to meet people in the area and learn about the Louisville area before I commit to housing in the area.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Neo Soul, Indie, Afro-Latin percussion, 80s power ballads, Anything rhythmic with a Tabla & Sitar in it, urban lounge music, modern folk, Jazz, Classical, basically anything that's good.
I'm also really surprised to find I've become a podcast person (mostly Radiolab, Snap Judgment, and anything related to design thinking or agency brand news)
Books: I read a lot of non fiction (esp if it's tech related), and a lot of online articles from HBR, Inc Magazine, Fast Company, Fusion, Brain Pickings, On Being, & The Muse.
I'm a big fan of the Awkward Yeti, Existentialist Comics, Jim K Benton, and a wide range of 1-4 panel comics.
I read a lot of sociology literature, but appreciate well thought out fantasy fiction that contemplates contemporary ethics, e.g. the Hunger Games series, Harry Potter, LOTR.
Movies: According to netflix, I like Action & Adventure, Suspense, Dramas, & Comedies with strong female leads
TV: don't watch much unless it's soccer, x games, American Ninja Warrior, Modern Family, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, MacGyver, or shows that can be watched in clips. I got out of the habit of binge-watching series once I started taking on multiple techie internships. So there's a lot I haven't seen. I did, however, finally finish season 4 of Portlandia. The place I got my degree had all of those personalities.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share a good sense of humor, an extra hand around the house, a good chat, and I have a small footprint, so I keep things pretty tidy.
