Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Generally, we seek to explore Strange New Worlds-Escape Normality.
Specifically, we're currently on a tour of the Pacific Northwest in our camper van. We're volunteering at festivals, soaking in hot springs, and touring universities to see where we want to go to grad school in Fall 2019.
ABOUT ME
School teachers turned gypsies in the midst of a shared existential crisis about public education and living in the Bible belt. Contemplating radical career changes and in the meantime trying to have as much fun as humanly possible.
PHILOSOPHY
Monica's believes that humans are basically good, mistakes are essential to learning, and that there is no such thing as a stranger just people you haven't talked to yet.
Jacob believes that the vast majority of humanity is not having enough fun and that conformity is the devil.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We've loved couch surfing so far! We would like to host more folks passing through Tulsa and surf ourselves as we travel this spinning rock of oddity.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing is a new platform for an age-old custom. In the era before the supremacy of the internet Co-Pilot Jacob was trying to set a record for number of years spent sleeping on couches. Ok, not really trying to set a record just in graduate school for a really, really long time.
We have hosted a handful of surfers. Apparently Tulsa is not a vacation destination, which baffles us, but then we know all the secret awesome spots that the Internet doesn't know about.
We surfed our way across Eastern Canada in 2015 and had a great time meeting new people and causing mayhem. Ok mostly we had mellow interesting conversations but there was a little bit of mayhem.
Interests
Monica likes to read, hike, camp, do yoga, travel to Latin America, knit, have deep conversations with strangers, and play outside. She also recently got way in over her head and painted a 11' x 16' mural in a mere three days!
Jacob likes to play dork games, engage in verbal kung fu, do basically anything involving adventure, create silly costumes, listen to music, and dance until his legs cramp.

Music, Movies, and Books
Monica is a voracious reader with a particular fondness for sci-fi and fantasy.
She doesn't really enjoy movies but Grand Budapest Hotel knocked her socks off.
Having grown up sleeping in the guitar case at her dad's bands' gigs, classic rock has a special place in her heart. She also likes Motown, Pop, and anything she can successfully karaoke. Oh yeah and Notorious B.I.G. who is the sh*t.
Jacob likes vast and odd collection of music mostly focused around performing weird and spontaneous interpretive dance at inappropriate times and places. As for movies and books, sadly the cliche of the D&D nerd turned hipster does apply.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Monica- Lived in the Peruvian Andes with a loving family who welcomed her as their own while she taught kids ages 3 to 16 (and one dog).
Jacob- Became a conversationally fluent speaker of a highly endangered indigenous language.
Teach, Learn, Share
Monica would like to learn anything related to arts or languages. She can also teach you Spanish or how to draw a ninja turtle, paint a picture and perfect your downward dog.
Jacob would like for you to make him laugh, see how silly we can all get, and show you the sights and wonders of T-town.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We are flexible people with broad and fluid interests. Want to be left alone? OK we can do that and quietly share some space and move on. Or perhaps something a little more social like conversation and tea. OR we could go dumpster diving, argue about film adaptations of cherished fantasy and sci-fi fiction, build a giant alligator costume out of cardboard, collectively make sushi, go on a photo safari shoot, dress up like super heroes, mini flash mob your local mall, paint your bedroom, run with abandonment through a field, have a sing a long, or Jacob's personal favorite which is dance, dance, dance.
