Overview
About Me
My name is Monika and I am a Polish student. I moved to Warsaw, which is the capital city of Poland, at the age 16 and I’ve been living here ever since.
Last October I started my second year at Warsaw University where I study English, German and Italian. Ever since I can remember I have always been drawn to foreign languages. This is undoubtedly connected with a great passion of mine- travelling. So far I have visited numerous countries in Europe, which I am truly amazed at- Italy, France, Germany, Greece…
However, my very favorite destination in Europe and a place where will always come back to is the UK. I spend every summer in London since I was 15 and since 2013 I'v been a counselor and a coach at summer language camps in London. A take care of the group of fifteen teenagers at the age between 13 and 19 and I also have classes with them where I teach them about British culture, history and monuments. This job gives me an enormous sense of achievement as I love sharing my passion for Great Britain with others and I really enjoy being around people who are cooperative and energetic!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Travelling is a great passion of mine! That's why I'd love to be a tourguide in the future. But for now, I just want to gain as much experience as possible to be able to set up my own business, a travel agency. Besides, this year I finally want to realize my biggest goal so far- visiting America! Coming to the United States has been my number one dream for many years now. That's why I am taking part in a cultural exchange programme- Work and Travel. I am going to work at a camp for American children for two months and afterwards I plan to travel across America!
Interests
I love taking up a variety of tasks, for example in the field which has always been my passion- journalism. During my school years I used to write for the school journal for three years. These were usually articles or movie reviews. I also took up a radio course which is the first step into my professional journalistic career. Since then I have been collaborating with the Warsaw radio station- ‘Bemowo Fm’. I usually make reports from current events connected with the community of my district or from cultural, sport or charitable events.
In addition, I am a great music lover and I love singing. I pursued this interest in Junior High School singing for the school choir for three years.
Another artistic passion of mine is dancing. I used to attend modern dance classes and I was a member of a professional dancing group for almost three years. We used to take part in a series of national dancing competitions and we received a couple of awards, which was extremely uplifting and rewarding. This adventure taught me that hard work pays off!
An activity that helps me keep fit is riding a bike. Here in Warsaw we have a lot of bycicle routes. I love riding a bike, because it makes me get away from the day-to-day routine, even if it is just for an hour :)

Music, Movies, and Books
I love watching movies! I actually watch tons of them. I enjoy different genres, but mostly psychological dramas and thrillers. When it comes to music, I listen to it basically all the time ;) Also with music, I love different genres and artists. I listen to alternative music, rok, pop, jazz, soul, I also love movie soundtracks. When it comes to books I like coming back to some good old classic, such as 'The Great Gatsby' by F. S. Fitzgerald.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A great hobby of mine is watching movies. That's why I' ve always wanted to be on the movie set. Last year I finally had a great opportunity to be an extra on the set of my favourite Polish production- a miniseries - 'The Time of Honour'. It takes place in the occupied Warsaw during World War II. This was a memorable experience which gave me an excellent insight into the world of cinema!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would really love to see what life of ordinary people really looks like in a different country. I would like to get to know what YOU think about your city and country, not what travel books say- to see your country from Your perspective. I can also tell you a lot of things about my own country, which has a rich history, amazing cultural life and beautiful landscapes and places to visit.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I will definitely enjoy telling you whatever may interest you about my country, as well as other European countries I have been to. Believe me, I have a lot of stories to tell! :)
