Sobre mí

Hello everyone, my name is Mon :) I originally come from the Czech republic but I decided to move to the UK straight after high school and eventually spent most of my so-called "adulthood" there :)

I got kind of sick of the system and how money is everyone's first priority though and made the biggest decision in my life. I quit my job, sold pretty much everything I owned and started travelling around the globe. That was in the beginning of 2015.

Up to now, I've been on da road for more than two years. I travelled around SE Asia, then flew to Turkey and hitchhiked from there all the way to Ireland, then flew over the big ocean and hitched around Canada there and back with a bit longer stop in the Rocky mountains. I would love to hitchhike all around the world one day :) Now I'm in Central America. Wherever I travel, I try to do some voluntary work - I am a big nature and animal lover and love to help out on farms :) In Asia, I was also teaching English which was a lot of fun and a great experience!

I am a professional chef but I love travel blogging and hope to publish a book one day about my life on da road. You can follow my travel adventures on my facebook page called "I'MON da road" :)

I would like to encourage more people to travel, to just stop making excuses and hit the road because I believe only that way we can truly understand the world we live in. I have all my life packed in a 70 litre backpack, I have a tent, hammock, sleeping mat and sleeping bag, I am used to sleeping anywhere and out of my comfort zone but I also love to meet local people and have fun with them so that's why I'm here :)

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people, learning about different cultures and exploring new tastes that the world has to offer.

I visited Egypt in February 2014 in a very rural area and that's what completely changed everything in my life. I saw how people live over there and I found out I'd been kind of selfish with my opinions about the world and people I don't know. I discovered that everyone is unique and they have their own story to tell and there's so much you can learn from them. It doesn't matter if they're nice or horrible to you, everyone gives you a new experience and I would also like to be one of those people that other people search for in order to experience something new :)

Intereses

I'm a chef so apart from cooking, I'm very passionate about writing. I write a lot, I always carry a notepad with me and when I feel like writing, I write. Basically, I write about everything that happens in my life.

When I have time, I write for my blog www.imondaroad.com but more often I keep my facebook page updated so check it out to get a better idea about who I am and what I do :) www.facebook.com/iMONdaroad

I love climbing and bouldering. I had always been scared of heights until a lot of stuff happened in my life and I decided to overcome every single fear I had (although I still struggle with big spiders :)). Unfortunately, I don't carry my climing gear with me but I still love to hike mountains because that's where I feel like "being home" :) I'm a massive nature lover!

I play guitar every now and then, it calms me down and goes well with writing as well :)

I love team sports, especially basketball, football, floorball and volleyball but on the other hand I like to do "just-me-sports" such as longboarding, skiing and snowboarding as well :)

I love new challenges and things I haven't tried before. Basically, I'm open to anything that doesn't hurt me or the ones around me :)

Música, películas y libros

I grew up listening punk rock and I think that it had a big influence on who I am now. I love Simple Plan, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Bowling for soup, etc.

I'm very simple with movies, I love movies I can have a laugh at and at the same time, I love horrors. My most favourite movie is definitely Into The Wild which always gives me the motivation to keep moving whenever I feel a bit lost.

I don't read a lot (I prefer writing) but my favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Hitchhiked on my own all across Europe from Turkey to the UK during summer 2015.

Spontaneously decided to hitchhike from Greece to Czech just to go to a cool party in my hometown.

Visited Egypt in an area tourists are normally not allowed into.

Visited a refugee camp on Myanmar/Thailand border.

Slept on top of a random mountain in Thailand just to see the sunrise.

Hitchhiked around Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia which was absolutely crazy.

Watched the sunrise on top of an active volcano in Indonesia.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach you how to travel cheap, how to make that first step towards living your dream and how to always think positive :) I can teach you how to play with diabolo (that's how I also earn money on da road) as well!

I would love to learn how to play guitar better, how to cook your local food, how to do a handstand :)

I can share some of the delicious food I cook, I can share smiles, hugs and experiences :)

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I'm always up for some language exchange (I speak fluent Czech, Slovak and English) and I would love to do some sort of cooking exchange as well :)

I'm pretty much always in a good mood and I would like to pass that on to other people too :)
