I love meeting people and learning about different perspectives and ways of being- hosting is a great way to do this. Traveling is a great joy for me and it's always so much better to stay with people who live there. I value community very highly, especially the ability to share, trust, and have a network that crosses language, nationality, and other barriers.

I started using this website as a way to save money while traveling. It's evolved into so much more. I love when I click with a surfer and we become instant friends, if only for an afternoon.
I highly recommend Couchsurfing to anyone who wants to learn more about what a place is REALLY like, how to avoid tourist traps, and what is worth seeing, tasting, exploring, etc. People are often skeptical when I tell them I do Couchsurfing, so I'd love more people to try it out and realize the world's not such a scary place.
