CURRENT MISSION
Experience life by meeting new people
ABOUT ME
I was born in Shanghai and moved to the Midwest when I was very young. Because I was exposed to American culture at an early age, I had no problems acculturating myself to become comfortable living in the US. However, my connection to China was never cut because of the early memories of my childhood in Shanghai. I made a point to learn Chinese in college. I always yearned to go back to China. But I gradually realized that there is a chasm between America and China, and that I am straddling the fence between the two. When in the US, I identify with China and yearn for it. When I am in China, I realize how American I actually am, and do not necessarily share the same culture with the other Chinese who grew up in China. I went through a crisis believing that I had no home, and that I will always be considered an outsider both in the US and in China. But I gradually felt that instead of understanding my situation as an eternal homelessness, I should rather be grateful for my unique situation of having more than one hometown, and of having an ability to easily move from one culture to the other.
I am currently a PhD student at Yale University thinking about transitioning into law as a career. I am ambitious, and have strong determinations to see my ambitions through. I love meeting new people and forming new connections.
