Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Just want to help expand this amazing web of people, meet and hang out with friends of friends of friends of friends. I want to do my part in making the world smaller and more interconnected.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing is so important to me. I love that I'm part of this community of hospitable people out there who share their homes and lives with strangers. I love how I have taken my kids along surfing and had them learn the lessons that people are kind and the world is abundant.
The first time I couchsurfed was in Iowa. I was traveling from Kansas City back to MN, and wanted to avoid the Interestate, take the back roads, see something. I created a couchsurfing account, and set up a visit with a family in Okoboji. As we were driving there, I told Henry and Willa that we were going to couchsurf. They got excited, thinking about jumping from couch to couch. When they heard what we were really doing, they freaked out. I assured them it would be OK. We arrived, met these incredibly kind people, entered a house that smelled of fresh baked brownies. The next day when it was time to go, both kids wanted to stay. We lingered as long as we could, then headed down the road.
Interests
meeting new people, sharing a meal, sharing stories, sharing experiences. I also have a passions for taking saunas, have built 7 of them, find myself in one at least a few times a week. I love being a parent, sharing adventures with my kids.
I have 20 acres near Cornucopia on Lake Superior. I have a tiny house there. I am interested in homesteading, hosting, and building community here.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like Bob Dylan (grew up in Hibbing a few blocks from his boyhood home). I like how he matches meaningful (and sometimes random) thoughts to a catchy tune. Maggie's Farm is pretty much my theme song. As far as books go, I love the God of Small Things, Dakota (read this every year it seems), and several of the transcendental writers. I also recently read On the Road, the Original Scroll and Grapes of Wrath. Are these required reading for couchsurfers?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most of my "amazing things done" over the past several years have revolved around parenting....am a parent to Henry and Willa, have been a foster parent to around 20 kids, have had exchange students the past 4 years. Our children have always known somebody to live in our "spare" bedroom.
As far as seeing amazing things, happens all the time....when I remember to look. At the same time, I know some pretty nice corners of our prairie of Western Minnesota as well as the Northwoods of Minnesota/Wisconsin.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would like to learn people's stories, experiences, where they've been, what they've learned. I can share my stories, my life, my couch (or extra room). I would also like to share my community. There is much going on in the western MN...there's a fire on the prairie.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a clean, helpful, kind, self-entertaining, low-maintenance guest. I love to listen to and share stories.
I really love this question.....what do I have to share? Mostly I share a pleasant energy, kindness, my sense of adventure, stories.....
I share connection.
