ABOUT ME
I am a wanderer at heart. I am happiest when on the road meeting good people, experiencing and savoring what life has to offer.
I am a dad. I have two children, one of which I’ve couchsurfed extensively with.
I am a partner to Susannah, a completely amazing and wonderful woman, also on couchsurfing.
I am a seeker. Always curious what lies just beyond what I can see.
I am a listener. I love to hear people's stories.
I am a host. I love to bring people together and connecting, ideally with tasty food around a fire.
PHILOSOPHY
To experience all I can.
Say yes.
Take chances.
Abandon “security”
Be outrageous.
Love deeply.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I could not love couchsurfing any more than I do.
I just want to help expand this amazing web of people, meet and hang out with friends of friends of friends of friends. I want to do my part in making the world smaller and more interconnected.
I have 2 homes where I host from…..
East Nashville, TN in my girlfriend Susannah’s home. Great neighborhood vibe.
Cornucopia, WI on my acreage by Lake Superior. Simply put….paradise.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing is so important to me. I love that I'm part of this community of hospitable people out there who share their homes and lives with strangers. I love how I have taken my kids along surfing and had them learn the lessons that people are kind and the world is abundant.
The first time I couchsurfed was in Iowa. I was traveling from Kansas City back to MN, and wanted to avoid the Interestate, take the back roads, see something. I created a couchsurfing account, and set up a visit with a family in Okoboji. As we were driving there, I told Henry and Willa that we were going to couchsurf. They got excited, thinking about jumping from couch to couch. When they heard what we were really doing, they freaked out. I assured them it would be OK. We arrived, met these incredibly kind people, entered a house that smelled of fresh baked brownies. The next day when it was time to go, both kids wanted to stay. We lingered as long as we could, then headed down the road.
Interests
meeting new people, sharing a meal, sharing stories, sharing experiences. I also have a passion for taking saunas, have built 8 of them, and find myself in one at least a few times a week. I love being a parent, sharing adventures with my kids.
I have 20 acres near Cornucopia on Lake Superior. I have a tiny house there. I am interested in homesteading, hosting, and building community
I am very interested in simplicity and present moment awareness.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like Bob Dylan (grew up in Hibbing a few blocks from his boyhood home). I like how he matches meaningful (and sometimes random) thoughts to a catchy tune. Maggie's Farm is pretty much my theme song. As far as books go, I love the God of Small Things, Dakota (read this every year it seems), and several of the transcendental writers. I also recently read On the Road, the Original Scroll and Grapes of Wrath. Are these required reading for couchsurfers?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most of my "amazing things” I’ve done over the past several years have revolved around parenting....I am a parent to Henry and Willa, have been a foster parent to around 20 kids, and have hosted 4 exchange students. My children grew up always having someone living in our "spare" bedroom. I continue to parent with Susannah’s teenage daughter in Nashville who I adore.
I also have much gratitude for how I’ve found work/life balance and have fostered rich relationships across the globe.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would like to learn people's stories, experiences, where they've been, what they've learned.
I can share my stories, my life, my couch (or extra room).
I can share a tasty plate of food and a clean place to sleep.
I also have a sauna at both the Nashville and Cornucopia locations.
I’m always trying to learn new and tasty dishes to cook up. If you have a favorite meal you like to cook up, I’d love to join you in the kitchen.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a clean, helpful, kind, self-entertaining, low-maintenance, grateful guest.
I love to listen to and share stories.
I enjoy helping to cook a meal up and head out on any adventure with hosts.
I am a true couchsurfer, there for the connection and community beyond anything else.
