About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to travel the country, meet people and spread joy and inspiration through my music.

ABOUT ME

My name is Jared and I love music in all of its forms. I play many instruments, but I currently play percussion the most, as I am the drummer in my band. I have spent most of my life in medium sized towns in Utah, although I did spend about a year and a few months living in Flagstaff, Arizona. I am currently living in Cedar City, Utah, and although I was wary of moving back to Utah, I ended up really loving it here. I have a lot of great friends that take care of me. I live with my bandmates in an apartment and I enjoy spending time with my friends and listening to good records.

PHILOSOPHY

I live because I need to create. I believe that's why we are all here and I think we are all happiest when we are doing just that. What you are creating is never set in stone, just that you are creating what you truly want. As for me, I create music, life, love and thought. That's really the meaning of life to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed minimally and helped in hosting many people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my CouchSurfing experience comes from hosting and hanging around people that are currently hosting. I have met so many amazing people through this service, and I am always happy to provide a roof for a traveler. My favorite aspect about CouchSurfing is definitely the great conversation and interesting world views I have come across in my time.

Interests

Music, hiking, cycling, enjoying nature, video games, driving, cookies, vegetables, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, singing, technology, fixin' shit, pretending to be a ninja that really hates pallets of wood, late night drives, listening to full albums and only talking in the negative space between tracks

Music, Movies, and Books

Here are a few of my favorite bands, but I will listen to pretty much anything with artistic integrity: Biffy Clyro, Ben Folds Five, The New Pornographers, Sahara Hotnights, Public Enemy, Porcupine Tree, Echo and the Bunnymen, Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, The Beatles, Radiohead, Brown Feather Sparrow, Say Anything, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith, Lightspeed Champion, Cake, The Mountain Goats

MOVIES:
The Room (directed by Tommy Wiseau). House of Sand and Fog. Everything is Illuminated. Big Fish. Finding Neverland. Moulin Rouge. Singin' in the Rain. Juno. Garden State. I am in love with intellectual indie films and romance movies. I like the occasional comedy, but I love those deep movies that really make you think... also bad movies...

BOOKS:
Psychology of Music. J.R.R. Tolkien's books. Musicophilia. Almost any informational book. Watchmen. Y The Last Man. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Most graphic novels and comics. I enjoy reading reference books on any topic. If I can learn something from it, I will.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once fell about 25 feet down a stairwell (free fall) and landed on linoleum without breaking a single bone... That was pretty amazing. I was 10 years old.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach the basics of music theory and how to play a low brass instrument, guitar or drums. I can teach someone how to set up a cheap at home recording studio. Also, I know how to run a light and sound board, man a fly system, build stage sets, and hang and focus stage lights.

I'd love to learn how to play a reed instrument such as saxophone or clarinet. I'd also like to learn anybody's thoughts on life and the meaning there of.
