I am looking to challenge myself and break the mold of a so-called normal life. I've spent most of my life in school, so this mold breaking is a new thing for me.

I grew up in the woods of West Virginia, and I love the outdoors and hiking. Sometimes I record music, volunteer as a radio DJ, and make visual art.

To meet people while I'm traveling and to meet people who are traveling when I'm not. If you identify as an artist of any kind, or even if you don't but you're kind, I'd like to meet you.

I just recently joined, but I had a couple positive experiences a few years ago when a roommate hosted some travelers via couchsurfing. There's something profound about being open and friendly with strangers. I'm a fan of the concept.

I am about to embark on a five week solo trip in Ireland and the UK (Sep 5 - Oct 10, 2016). I just finished grad school, and this seems like the perfect time to do something like this and leap into the unknown. I've traveled abroad before, but I've never done anything on this scale. I realized I should be on couchsurfing, which I've always admired but never did anything about it.

I'm a music nerd. I like stuff from every genre and in between. Just a few of my favorite artists in no particular order are James Brown, the Stooges, Betty Davis, David Bowie, Public Enemy, Tom Waits, and Lucinda Williams.

Books - A couple favorites are One Hundred Years of Solitude and Catch 22.

Movies - Two great movies I've seen in recent years are Only Lovers Left Alive and Bronson. But it's hard to pick favorites. I don't really do favorites.

A few months ago, I performed a two song music set with a group of friends in their underground venue. There was a large, enthusiastic crowd, and they seemed to like our cover of "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop. It was thrilling.

This is a long shot, but if you happen to have any questions about geothermal energy or general physics questions, I may be able to help. Also, I have double jointed thumbs, but that's not something I can teach.
