CURRENT MISSION
To meet new people, see new things, explore other cultures, share my culture with folks
ABOUT ME
My husband and I have started traveling more now. We're still in unstable situations financially (thanks to the recession), so we try to get deals and bargains. Our first trip abroad was in July, 2010 to York, England. We were hoping to go to Italy in 2011 but that's on hold until probably 2012.
We have a long list of places we'd like to visit, and hope to really bear down on that list in the coming years.

PHILOSOPHY
I try to be compassionate and generous (both spiritually and financially) to those around me. I enjoy helping people, but I don't like feeling like I'm being taken advantage of. I'm strongly of the opinion that it's very easy to judge other people and that most of the unpleasant or downright awful things people say/do to each other spring from the idea that the person being harmed is some how "other" than us. That the difference justifies the bad treatment. It doesn't. I tend to believe that we're more alike than we are different from each other, and it is through realizing this that things can be improved.
You can't hate someone for their own good.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Right now, I'm all new at this. I hope to at least participate in the forums. Maybe someday someone will want to visit rural, Central Vermont and stay with us.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Most of my experience centers on times during my late teens to mid twenties when I was going to a concert or visiting an area and I slept on someone's couch. Seems like a lifetime ago, and it was often the result of poor planning on my part. That seldom happens these days (the poor planning part).

Music, Movies, and Books
Jane Austen is my favourite author. I also am very fond of fantasy, speculative fiction, biographies, historical cookbooks, etiquette books, and stories/books that give me snapshots of every day life during specific historical periods.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I met my husband online back in 1987. He lived on Long Island, I lived in Alaska. He moved to Alaska in 1988 and we fell in love. We've been together ever since. Marrying him was the single best choice I ever made in my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am not great at knitting, but I can help get someone started at it. I am a fantastic cook, and love sharing cooking tips. I've also done a lot of work in online communities and studied psychology, so I'm pretty good at helping people wind their way through online relationships.
