About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To completely rethink and rework this profile.

ABOUT ME

All about me.

Here we go:

Hi.
My name is Nicolaas, I'm a South African from Cape Town and so far this must be about the most stock introduction you've probably read in a while.

I'll always be the first to call my bluff.

I have hobbies, I'm still trying to figure out what most of them are, but I keep busy. These hobbies predominantly include things to do with my favourite faculty - sound. I listen to more music than my brain can process per day. I often get headaches as a result. Some call it excess, I call it dedication.
I make music as well and play, or imagine I can play, quite a few instruments. Mostly guitar and drums. I'm very keen to learn to play the theremin and piano properly as well.
I work as an unpayed intern at a studio that does sound for tv shows and animation and my current ambition is to write and record and produce an album by the end of the year.
YEAH!

I used to draw and paint, but somehow I've lost touch with it, however, I'm trying to recultivate that hobbie one doodle at a time.

I wanted to study at a sound school in London this year (2009), but those plans fell through because the South African Rand is so weak opposed to the GBP and Euro, that I simply couldn't afford it. So, I've resolved to become a respectable member of society this year and try to make money in any way I can and will hopefully be able to afford my course next year. Currently the "try to make money in any way I can" thing has led me to do modeling (note how I skillfully dodge the term "work"). Admittedly its not the toughest job, and not stimulating in any way, but it's brought me back to Europe this year which I'm very happy about.

For now, this is what I'm 'All About', at least as far as the written word can convey.

PS.
Here are some exclamation marks
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to compensate for the lack of them throughout the rest of my profile. I'm actually much more cheerful than my choice of punctuation might lead you to believe. Look! A smiley face to prove it!
:)
See? Cheerful! YAY!

PHILOSOPHY

I dont think I understand myself or the world well enough to have a philosophy that I actually believe in.

I guess in some way thats a philosophy in itsself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm in Europe at the moment, working and traveling simultaneously, so right now I guess I classify as a 'couch surfer' as opposed to a 'host'.
I'm returning to South Africa in mid July when I'll be happy to offer my couch, granted I have an apartment of course.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did some light couchsurfing last year in Europe and met some really great people. In fact, as I write this I'm sitting in the apartment of a friend I made in Berlin last year, which in my opinion serves testament to the longevity of the bonds formed through this project.

Interests

I'm interested in many things. For a while I've been toying with the idea of someday building myself a log cabin in some remote destination, and recording music in isolation. Just for kicks...
Could that be an interest?

Things that interest me: design, handywork, Bear Grylls-/McGuyver-esque resourcefulness, music, music recording/production, music blogs, music literature, natural phenomenae, UFO's, human nature, scetches/doodles.. And a whole lot of other interesting shit!

The above mentioned drastically vary in level of interest actually. Some things interested me just now, and i probably wont think about them again... oi
