ABOUT ME

Currently roaming around Europe on my push bike. Not in a big hurry, though. After over 8000 miles, I've gained weight due to heavy drinking and a voracious appetite. I've been biking for ages, but it was the stretch along the Danube from Bratislava to Budapest that's put everything together.
Three days of phenomenal rain-free fall weather. Wired up, wind in the hair, bike-only lanes along the river banks. Hard driving music half the time, natural sounds the other half. Birds, deer, insect noises. Interactions with people you can't have any other way, except on foot. Riding for ages in the dark down a deserted path, meeting an old man with a fishing pole, nodding that yes, Komarno is that way. Talking to a Hungarian kid in English, him talking to me in Hungarian, not understanding a word of each other, but finishing it off with a race to the end of town. Getting carpet bombed with surplus vineyard grapes by some giggling kids around a blind curve.
So many sights on this ride, and even more thoughts. At times I couldn't make any progress because I kept stopping to write everything down! My riding style has changed dramatically from when I began last year. Now it truly isn't getting from town F to town G, it's the ride.....
After this journey is finished, my tentative plan is to become involved with infrastructure development in an underdeveloped region (to be determined).
