A happy and whole life in Ohio
ABOUT ME
Many people find me to be an unusual person, I figure I am about the same as everyone else. I spend most of my spare time doing theatre work when I can.
I am a fairly contemplative person. yup.
PHILOSOPHY
I suppose I like many of the contemporary generation have a certain affinity with the "seducer" character from Kierkegaard's Either/Or who says "My goal is to play shuttlecock with the universe." Then a strange sequence of events, I read a lot more Kierkegaard, spent a summer at a monastery and realized that the ethics and a life filled with variety and adventure meet when one pursues the Gospel. Now I try to learn everyday from people, often this means people outside of faith traditions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Meetings when possible, though I think I am much happier when I can meet another couch surfer one on one in their own hometown.
I'm not all that pleased about the for profit status of this enterprise now, I called it facebook and deleted my profile for a while. Maybe it's worth another try?
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Well, stayed with some people, once got wild caught Alaskan salmon for brunch and made good friends.
Interests
I am happiest when I feel very connected to existence. This comes for me most frequently when seeing sincere live performances. Theatre, vocal music, an artisan working at their craft, ect. I love performing when I can though I find myself most generous when I am able to direct performances. Otherwise, I can be found somewhere in nature, on a canoe (if you have a boat, please take me in it!), hiking, climbing a tree and caving occasionally. I also am a beginning milliner (hat-maker) but hope to pursue the craft for the rest of my life. Also the Medieval Period.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books-- most of them. Ancient books, spiritual books, ancient spiritual books, Shakespeare of course. Any fantasy I can take a few days to devour is a big hit for me (three cheers for Ursula Le Guin!), as is most philosophy (Kierkegaard, Chesterton, Heidegger)
I am not much of a movie watcher, I assume it is an occupational hazard of being obsessed with live theatre. I find myself watching a movie about once a month.
Music-all, older is usually better and any sincere choral group can enrapture me. Usually I make my own music whenever possible.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A week in silence, perhaps the most profound week of my entire life. I took 5-6 hour walks every day and sat in prayer for the rest. People are always looking for a proof of God somewhere in complicated arguments and observations. The divine is found when we can sit in peace, and be found.
Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada- the finest wilderness I have ever seen.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot of songs, a lot of poems and a lot of plays. These days I am making exciting woolen handcrafts! I know some tai chi, but want to learn more.
What is time? Don't ask me and I know, ask me and I don't know.
It is possible to return home, but only if you realize home is a place you've never been before.
