About Me
CURRENTLY IM TRAVELING, SO I CAN ACCOMMODATE GUESTS FROM SEPTEMBER 2024
Hello, I am Joana!
Raised in Vienna/Austria by a Polish mother, I left the city to enter the theater world in Germany, the land of poets and thinkers and after stops in Cologne, Bolzano, Ingolstadt, Duesseldorf and Essen I currently live in Trier.
Trier is a small, fine city at the German-French border.
Before turning his back on Europe and moving to Constantinople, Emperor Constantine's had his residence here. He left us a bunch of beautiful, megalomaniac buildings and parks to stroll around. It somehow reminds me of Viennas way to portrait itself as the worlds centre and maybe that´s why I feel so comfortable here...
My home is a former hostel - now a community with 13 lovely flatmates, two dogs, a garden and lots of live, talking and cooking.
For a living, I work as an actress in the city theatre. Working as a performative artist is absolutely my passion but beside that I enjoy dancing lindy hop, taking a walk, read a good book or watch the birds in the trees or doing nothing.
The wonderful man on the second picture is Martin, my love and travel compagnion. A warm-hearted, calm guy who studied agriculture and now trains aspiring farmers. And who loves puns!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It's a really wonderful idea to practice the concept of hospitality - it broadens the mind and heart, brings the world into ones home, gives the opportunity to see the world through a much more personal lense and in the best case is the foundation of new friendships!
Interests
What excites me most about theater is the opportunity as a viewer to immerse myself in a wide variety of subject areas in a way that is not only comprehensible, but also tangible. As a player, it inspires me to find - as the wonderful Susan Batson says - a truth in the words, in the story, and in my own expression that both embraces my political views and reveals and expresses another part of myself. That's what makes theater exciting for me and I'm very happy to have landed in Trier at a theater that doesn't just focus on idleness, but rather promotes more tolerance and cosmopolitanism. At least with its selection of plays. The rest ist in progress ;)
Describing my everyday life:
To be honest, it is quite unspectacular at the moment - most of the day I spend on rehearsal stages, where I sing, love, die, argue - whatever it takes. Sometimes I lead theater courses, make audiodescriptions for films, speak for the radio, act in series and I´m thankful for this variety.
In the afternoon-break I ususally try to fit in my personal life - cook with one of my roommates, prepare for the evening performance, read secondary literature, hang out in the garden, try to find solutions for interpersonal problems at work, demonstrate, sleep.
My few free days I love to spend with Martin. We go out for a walk, visit concerts, drink a glass of wine on the Moselle bridge, play Scrabble, discuss personal stuff, dicsuss politics, forget about it again, dance to all kinds of music. And travel whenever we can.
And we are passionate about interested, passionate, caring people!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There fortunately are many. My last: It is possible to live with 13 people and actually really like each one of them.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: Some acting or singing techniques and the theory behind them. Making polish pierogi.
Learn: Whatever you'd like to teach me :)
Share: Time, experiences and adventures!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm looking forward to a little time spent together, to a conversation, or a walk.
As a long-term, tried and tested shared apartment resident I'm very good at being quiet in the evenings, not leaving any traces after cooking and keeping an eye on the needs of my roommates.
And of course I´d be happy to bring something from my current home - a good german black bread? Spices for bavarian Potato-salad? A book?
