ABOUT ME
Finished Uni a while ago, currently working on figuring out how to live forever. Not doing too badly so far.
I'm a qualified Secondary Teacher because those that live well and with verve should teach. Or maybe those that teach live well and with verve.
I'm laid back, good for a laugh and a chat. I take not being too serious very seriously. I enjoy playing games, board games, outdoor games, drinking games, theatre sports, as long as people are having a good time I'm in. I also like not playing games and just sitting around chewing on ideas. I really appreciate people who are considerate and open-minded, because I feel like I exhibit the same attitudes. The only intolerable thing is intolerance.
I've been to some of the States, some places around Europe (German, French, Swiss and Italian places) and went up and down Japan. More to come, I'm sure...
PHILOSOPHY
There are wonderful people to be found in every part of the world, if you look. If you have to look too hard, though, leave.
Aside from that I feel like any philosophy comes at the exclusion of others, so far. I'm too young to be doing anything but adding to myself. I think I always will be.
I do subscribe to the Mos Def school, though: Have fun, y'all.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've surfed a couple of couches in the US and Europe, and hosted a few people in Melbourne. Organised a few trips to the football, been to a few events. I can say with confidence that I know this city pretty well, and I'm more than happy to share this knowledge. It's a damn good place and worth checking out.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I stayed with this awesome dude in New Orleans, where we had an absolute ball and went to bed when the sun rose for almost a week. He introduced us to his sister and her friends, had air conditionig (a relief after the first place we stayed in) and was so hospitable. I was with a friend and we were gobsmacked by the whole CS thing, this being our first experience and all.
Second experience was staying with a guy in Austin. He was great, introduced us to some CS friends over there, showed us some local haunts, really excellent fellow.
When I got back to Melbourne, I hosted a couple of French guys at my place in the deep suburbs and introduced them to my friends. A pretty enlightening experience, I really took something away from that meeting. And I've introduced a couple of newbies to this game we play down here called AFL, and very much enjoyed their reactions.
Also stayed with a really great dude in Freiburg in Germany. Nice city, nice people, good nature.
Interests
I like talking shit. Not about dumb things, but about the most important things in life. Conversation is such a great way to start defining who we are, what we fall for, where we're going, whether we should keep going there, anything, really.
I'm interested in history and literature. The histories of people, places and how it effects different cultures and their attitudes at this moment. I strive to see trends, common traits that people have the world over, and to find understanding in our differences.
And I love a new idea. I find having a good chat with someone over a beer is the best way to come to understand their world in relation to your own, for better or worse (usually better).
I started a band with some friends a while ago, and even though it is over now I learned a lot about having a blast. Like, the best thing ever. Interest is probably too shallow a word for it. More like burning, soul-defining, camp outside the bedroom window in a tree with binoculars and break in at times to sniff panties and put on perfume obsession.

Music, Movies, and Books
Anything that seems genuine, has effort involved and avoids formulas is usually all right by me. Worthy of a good look in, at the very least.
Music: Mountain Goats, Youth Group, Led Zeppelin, Arcade Fire, Paul Simon, Steve Reich, Holst, Architecture in Helsinki, Nas, Ghostface Killah, Johnny Cash, Dire Straits, Animal Collective and much more.
Books: Beloved by Toni Mossison, White Noise by Don DeLillo, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, Dune by Frank Herbert, the Lucifer graphic novel series, The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton, Dirt Music by Tim Winton, Skippy Dies by Paul Murray, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen and much more.
Movies: Too many to even name. Particularly love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and (unfortunately) Dead Poets Society. Hold a special place in my heart and mind.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Still working on something truly excellent enough to warrant this space. The last thing I did was pretty good. The next thing will be better, though.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have a good understanding of the Australian Political system in case anyone else might possibly be interested in that. And if there's something I don't know I'll ask my housemates. I like a diverse range of music and love to share my tastes with people, although never impose, and listening to new music is always a great experience.
And I'm also an advocate of this little game we play down here called Australian Rules Football. Anyone who wants to learn, or even if you don't want to learn, the rules and excellence that is AFL, and especially the excellence of a certain team called the Essendon Bombers, I'm more than willing to show you.
I've also got mad karaoke skillz. And some guitar skillz.
