ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is Alex. I live with my girlfriend, Madi, and we like couchsurfing - yay! We have traveled around Canada, America and Mexico together. We've also hosted some CSers and informally have friends that crash with us every year.

I'm a bike mechanic - I teach people how to use tools and fix their own stuff. I like taking things apart and finding how they work.
I like living slowly, I am a vegetarian and I am content to have a small amount of material goods. My goal in life is to observe all of the beautiful people, creatures and things we're surrounded by and hopefully capture them with my camera.

I'm a tidy person who can clean up after themselves, I don't smoke or do drugs but I don't mind if that's what floats your boat.
I'm happy to socialize or keep to myself depending on what the situation calls for. What I'm trying to say is that I'm easy going and pretty flexible!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exploring the surreal experience which is Las Pozas in Mexico. Some of the coolest sculptures I've ever seen, and you can climb all over them!

Rode donkeys for 2 days in the desert in order to check out some 10,000 year old cave paintings.

I have personally raised tens of thousands of dollars for a Canadian environmental group as a door to door fundraiser.

I've volunteered my time to queer dance parties and hippie music festivals.

In the summer of 2007 I helped put together a small festival which managed to raise over $1,000 for a Hospice society (a place where terminally ill people live)

Swimming naked in the emerald waters of Semuc Champey (got awkward when the group of tourists showed up); climbing an active volcano (lava, lightning and rain, oh my!)

Hung out with Britney Spears' back-up dancers.

Watched a security camera video of myself getting hit by a car.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a bit about Canadian environmental issues, how to tune up your bike and where to find delicious vegetarian eats in Vancouver.
I can share my experiences working in an organization where there are no bosses or managers and we instead utilize consensus-based decision making. Not having a boss is awesome!

I'm always up for learning more about art, design, music, anarchism, philosophy, literature, women's studies, ethnic studies, camping and so on. I'd also like to learn how to be a DJ
