About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Open-minded, ethical and tangential travel. And, to grow my beard to shamanistic lengths

PHILOSOPHY

Unfortunately my personal philosophy is nebulous and thus irreducible to the concision this profile demands. I consider my current philosophical outlook markedly provisional, fluid and geared for future dismantling - but never valueless in regards to my present experience of things. I'm in a perpetual state of becoming. I'm striving to fathom my personal pursuit of knowledge and experience as valuable in itself, rather than a means to an end (ie answering the 'big questions'), in a fashion that is both cogent and edifying. I wish to enjoy the people I meet, places I visit and the complexity of my human mind for what they are: infinitely beguiling things in their own right, that don't necessarily have to imbued with metaphysical purpose to present themselves as meaningful to me.

Interests

- Travel with a mandate of getting out of my comfort zone. Travel that is genuinely open-minded, bringing with it learning opportunities and character development, while resisting any propensity to shoehorn foreign experiences into older modes of thinking.

- Art appreciation on both the critical and the historial plane

- Reading and maintaining a stimulating vacillation between fiction and non-fiction material

- Museology - examining how the past is framed through processes of inclusion and exclusion, artistic representation, the specificities and biases of curatorial agenda's and exhibition configuration, and its resultant implications on our notions of cultural identity.

- Music: both creating and listening. I'm obsessed with what could best be described as sonic alchemy - experimenting with synergistic recipes of found-sound. Suffice to say, I haven't landed upon satisfaction in this domain yet....

- Archaeology

- Channeling childhood memories in my creative pursuits

- Philosophy - particularly pertaining to metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, post-structuralism in general and linguistic theory

- Rock climbing, tramping and generally reveling in elemental and inhospitable landscapes.

- Contemplating the inadequacy of my perception beneath a starry night sky, whilst listening to Bob Dylan

- Smoking a hookah pipe while playing a singing bowl atop precipitous Auckland hills.
