About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn about myself as I learn about others. To meet people from different cultures, have new experiences, make memories, and educate one another!

ABOUT ME

Hmmm...so much to say that couldn't possibly fit in this tiny little box! I am open-minded, adventurous and in a perpetual state of envy for those that have had the opportunity to see and experience different parts of the world. I definitely have the travel bug, and I try to get out of town as much as possible. I have had some amazing travel experiences, and am looking forward to much more in the future!

I consider myself to be a genuine person. I mean what I say and say what I mean. I believe in karma. I try to help others when I can. I am not jaded. I still believe in the inherent goodness of people. My glass is half full. I'm like a carpenter building stairs - always thinking one step ahead. I believe education sets our minds free. I like reading, live music, laughing, children, sunsets, karaoke, blue jeans, high heels, taking long walks with short people (not in high heels), spending time with old friends and making new ones.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing has changed my life in the best possible way. I started hosting over a decade ago, and I quickly became addicted to meeting new and interesting people from different places and of different cultural backgrounds. I was pretty active in the past when I lived in San Diego where I hosted over 40 individuals from around the world and would regularly attend local meetup events, and I've had the opportunity to meet up with fellow couch surfers in other countries as well. I look forward to continuing my involvement with this network for years to come. I have had the pleasure of surfing with several of my former guests in the US and Europe, as well as with strangers. I love the international social network I have built through this organization and look forward to building more relationships in the future. I have taken a break from hosting for awhile to focus on my home life, but I plan on opening my home again in the future! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My past experiences have been great! Both as a host and as a guest. I'm a huge proponent of this community and think it is a genius idea. It's a great way to meet different types of people and build a global social network. I have made a number of new friends from many different cultures and backgrounds, and I look forward to making many more. I find it very exciting. Everyone I have met so far is very like-minded, really laid back and a ton of fun. The CS community consists of generous, open-minded individuals who all make the world a better place by opening their homes and their hearts to one another.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am an avid reader. Mostly non-fiction business books lately, but I do enjoy a bit of pop culture in some modern fiction from time to time.

I love music. I used to attend lots of concerts and music festivals in my youth. Now I'm married and have a child, so I have other priorities. But I do enjoy a good night out at a small club or concert venue from time to time. Comedy shows are also a favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I followed my dreams and moved cross-country to California in my mid-20's. After 13 years, I decided to move back to my home state of Michigan. I loved every bit of my experience and learned so much about myself in the process.

I did a house swap in Colorado over the holidays in 2010. That was an amazing experience. I went skiing in the Rockies a couple of days and even met up with some couch surfers I hosted in San Diego and stayed with them a night. So much fun!
