About Me

CURRENT MISSION

appreciate every moment.

ABOUT ME

We find that while traveling, eating delicious local cuisine, observing regional art and music and the many other things one does in a foreign place, we are becoming more and more fascinated by how alike we all are despite our multilingual and multicultural differences.

We love people. We love to know where someone has come from and about his/her family. There is something beautiful about our differences and our life stories. it sort of makes things more interesting and it is in many ways the purpose of traveling- besides of course to see amazing countrysides and landscapes you've never before seen.

We are an open-minded, family oriented young married couple. We love to play games, sing, read, go for walks and just enjoy the world around us.

Sarah :: I am from the rural southern region of the United States. I moved to California where I completed my bachelors degree in International Studies. I have been inspired by the many places I have lived and traveled. My love for nature is a driving force in my life. I love to breathe the fresh air of the outdoors and feel the earth in my hands which is reflected in my desire to adopt a lifestyle which revolves around the sacredness of planet Earth...

Yannick :: I am from San Francisco. My mom is French, so I grew up speaking both french and english. I like to stay active by being in the outdoors. I enjoy traveling, cooking and meeting new people. I love to tell stories as well as listen to stories others have to share...

As a couple... We believe in the importance of keeping food production, and consumption small and local, only producing what you can use or sell, eating seasonally and consciously. We also support seed saving movements of community farmers.

Our goal is to start an educational farm in order to build community, share the knowledge we've gained, and continue learning from those around us.

PHILOSOPHY

The world around me inspires my lifelong quest to answer the big question: What are we here for and why?Photography and writing provide channels through which to further consider these questions. A common thread in all of my art is an exploration of the bridge between spirituality and that which is worldly. I strive to convey the relationship between the delicacy of nature and the reality of life. Oftentimes, it seems as though the urban consumes the rural. However, if we pause to examine the lines, we are able to see the inseparable connections between the two.

My work focuses on the conviction that everything in the universe, both seen and unseen, is connected. This conviction is based on the fact that everything is composed of energy which has inspired me to search for the meaning underlying these connections. The work of Einstein in the field of physics, the writings of Nietzsche and the unwavering faith of mystics such as Saint Francis of Assisi and Rumi have served as sources of spiritual inspiration. My personal investigation of the physics of nature, spirituality and mysticism form the basis of my art.

Through my art, I hope to express the sacredness of the natural world and our need to live in communion with it. Each photograph explores this idea, creating a visual discourse inspired by the natural world and reflective of the splendor of nature. Additionally, my designs incorporate urban life and modernity while never failing to present the innate beauty of all things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We love mealtimes...cooking together, eating together, sharing stories, laughter and creating meaningful memories. We would love to share with our hosts some of our favorite dishes and recipes, which we've picked up over the years. Yannick makes a locally famous pizza that has been in his family for years!

We are eager to experience your home area through your eyes. We are always up for an adventure. We are also considerate of your time, grateful for you opening your home to us and more than happy to explore on our own if you're busy.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have a friend who is a host. So, we've met quite a few surfers, but we are pretty much new to surfing. Lots of travelers we've come across on our journey so far have just raved about how wonderful CS is, so we thought we'd give it a try. It sounds like a great way to meet not only other travelers, but also locals wherever you go.

We look forward to CS in helping provide us with amazing experiences during our travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

That's a little too difficult. Asking my favorite book is like asking my favorite beer...it all depends on my mood and the time of year and the weather etc. There are too many factors and no one favorite. There is a perfect book for every mood.

I love just about anything that makes me laugh, or feel good. I don't like things that are scary or things that are really violent. There is enough of that out there already, when I watch a movie or read a book, I just want to be reminded of the good things in life.

lovemusic. reallylove reggae. and samba. We pretty much love just about anything you can dance to!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We have been able to share our love and our lives with others.

Teach, Learn, Share

"You must be the change you want to see in the world."
-Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)

"A hundred times a day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depends on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the measure as I have received and am still receiving."
- Albert Einstein
