ABOUT ME

ooh, these are always so difficult, these descriptions of yourself...

well, these days, i'm living out of my backpack, visiting interesting places and projects, trying to contribute and learn as i go. i spend a lot of time on communes, farms, in shared houses, volunteering on various projects, camping illegally...

meeting people and exchanging stories is probably my favourite thing to do in the whole wide world--if i could, i would be a professional traveller and visiting friend

hmm, what else... i play the acoustic guitar and sing songs. i love gardening, cycling, reading, cooking, being outside, drinking coffee, animals, mountains, ashtanga yoga and making new friends.

i've travelled, lived and worked in various parts of North America, Europe, UK, South Asia and southern and eastern Africa. i'm interested in...well, pretty much everything, really!!

PHILOSOPHY

at a friend's funeral last year, we all received a little piece of writing that she had written for the occasion with her parting advice. it had a drawing of an old oak tree and it said ''try to be a little kinder''. that, for me, pretty much sums it up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i hosted a bunch of couchsurfers in Halifax last year, when i last had a couch, and it was absolutely wonderful. i was very happy to be a part of this project to encourage people linking up with others, across large distances.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i've hosted a fair bit, and am now on the road. all of the folks who came to stay with me in Halifax were fun, interesting and considerate and we had many cool adventures together. i think CS is a wonderful project and i am so happy to be a part of it.

Interests

learning and playing music (especially old songs), conversation, cooking tasty food, growing tasty food, travelling, anything that involves being outdoors, living outside of the money economy, freight trains, camping, yoga, gatherings and festivals, making crafts out of rubbish, sharing

Music, Movies, and Books

i love all music... i travel with my guitar, even though it's heavy and bulky, just because music brings people together in such an incredible way

i really enjoy reading and writing, too... fiction, poetry, nonfiction--travel writing especially

i just finished reading annie dillard's book of essays ''teaching a stone to talk''--i highly recommend it, it's excellent

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i think amazing stuff is much better discussed in person, over a few beers!

Teach, Learn, Share

hmm... i can share... organic food gardening, basic herbal medicine, some guitar songs with simple chord progressions, cooking skills. i also know a fair bit about wilderness navigation, yoga and alternative history (yknow, the kind they don't teach in school...).
