ABOUT ME

I call many places home and that list seems to keep growing. I'm polite and friendly, but if you get to know me, you'll discover I suffer from a severe case of sarcasm. I went to law school only to come to the stark realization before taking the bar that I didn't want to be an attorney & made an immediate career change.

PHILOSOPHY

The foundation for accomplishing anything is optimism and a good sense of humor.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've organized a lot of local events, including the Twin Cities Couch Fest 2013. My roommate and I host when possible & I love to show people some of the awesome spots & bars around town. I surf when I travel, which seems to be not as often as I'd hope to!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For me, couchsurfing started when I decided to not practice law, sold all of my stuff, packed my car with my bicycle and a cat & moved to a city where I'd never visited, had no job and knew no one. My first introduction was the local couch crash where I made lasting friendships. I'm now hooked on Minneapolis, traveling and meeting new people.

I've couchsurfed in two great places I never considered visiting before moving to the midwest: Madison Wisconsin and Winnipeg MB. The more travelers I meet, the more places I add to my list to visit.

I also surfed in Duluth for a half-marathon I was running, and my amazing host drove me to the race at 5:30 in the morning. Incredible hospitality among couchsurfers!

Read for pleasure and to learn, run for health and bask in the sun with friends in a city, forest or desert.

I hike, bike, camp & go on long road trips. I grew up in Utah and I steer as many travelers as I can to go there and see some of the most amazing & unique geographic features you'll ever see. If you've been to Zion or Bryce Canyon, you know what I'm talking about.

So while I love the outdoors, I prefer living in a city and to be surrounded by a great community of friends, music, art, food and new people.

Slow films, novels with hard to follow plot lines. There was a time when all I read was sci-fi, and I've reserved a special place in my heart for those fellow Ray Bradbury & Neil Gaiman fans. I drop a subtle Lovecraft reference in as many conversations as possible.

I love live music and am lucky enough to live by many venues that offer free or low price shows most nights of the week. Show me an amazing album I've never heard and I'll do the same.

In Glaciers National Park, a friend and I had a harrowing experience hiking a steep alpine trail but managed to get to our campsite safe but a little shaky. An interesting combination of cyclists and hitchhikers (couchsurfers to boot!) joined the campground that night, my friend and I cooked them a scrumptious sticks-to-your-ribs meal. For hours, we shared stories & laughed over a campfire. Then we went to the lake to stare at every star in the moonless sky & the milky way rising above the mountains. The still lake, right up to our toes, mirrored the night sky, leaving us all speechless.

I cook and bake, especially when everything's in season, plentiful and delicious! I'd love to learn how to cook more recipes or combine ingredients I'd never though of. If someone can finally teach me how to make some delicious hummus, I'll be eternally grateful.
