Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
The best story is about my mother. Years ago she was getting off the rainy highway on her way home. As she drove under the bridge she saw a dozen motorcyclists parked out of the downpour. She turned about, pulled over to ask if they wanted to get out of the rain they should come to her house a half mile away. They declined.
Fifteen minutes later, while she was putting wood in the stove, in rode the gang of bikes. She met them at the door, with coffee brewing, and open arms she waved them in. Two hours later after many great stories, much appreciation, lots of laughs, my step dad drove in to see bikes lined up at the front door. He walked in like it was a normal occurrence.
More laughter, and a great time was had by all. A couple of weeks later the riders sent her a beautiful thank you card and a small gift.
I'm my mothers daughter. My house has always been open to anyone and everyone. Couch surfing is just a new name for what we've been doing for years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've been nose to nose unprotected with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef.
I've seen bullet holes in buildings from WWII in Germany, been in the Pope's Palace from the 1300's in Avignon, smelled the flowers along Amsterdam canals, walked the old narrow streets of Stockholm island.
I've cried during the opening ceremonies of the Gay Games in the Olympic Stadium in Sydney while singing happy birthday to K.D. Lang, along with 40,000 other gay, lesbian and bi people.
I've ridden a train along the coast of Spain with my first true love, college sweetie.
I've sat at the top of Killington Mountain looking out, sat on the top of Mount Washington taking it all in.
I've felt spiritual in Montreal, empowered in Chicago, afraid in Tennessee, disgusted in Orlando, breathless in DC, confused in Denver, unimpressed in old Vegas, interested in San Francisco, frozen in Quebec City.
I've sweat in the Finnish saunas at private homes in Thunder Bay, jumping naked into the freezing cold stream ten paces away.
I've driven 100mph for 3 hours from Jvaskyla Finland to Helsinki in the middle of the night to only drive around the city exploring while my passenger and I wait for a 6am plane.
I've seen NYC skyscrapers and everything, twice.
I've driven on Nascar tracks as fast as the car could go.
I've ridden my bicycle through the streets of Sydney, sprinting with the cabs and buses.
I've driven across the country non-stop, kinda.
I've wondered about the history of Texas while riding my bicycle outside of Dallas, through the heat.
I've fallen asleep in a fold up chair in the Blue Mountains of Australia.
I've kissed in 80mph winds at the top of a mountain.
I've been notable in Steamboat Springs.
And I'm always ready to go anywhere.
