About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I signed up for this website back in 2009, and I'm ashamed to admit that I have neglected this resource in my travels (or lack thereof) until now. My mission is to use Couchsurfing to broaden my travel experiences.

ABOUT ME

I'm new to this whole idea of couch surfing, but I must admit that it gives me hope in a world where it could be argued that there is none. The fact that so many people are willing to open up their homes and allow travelers to stay with them proves that humanity, hospitality and generosity have not been forsaken in the 21st century. Isn't just so cool that this can even happen!? Think of all the wonderful people in this world!!

PHILOSOPHY

From a young child, I was always fairly disenfranchised with the whole tourism industry. When my family would go on vacations, I would always be the one who wanted to actually explore the town and get to know the real culture, rather than sit in a hotel or on a beach. I feel that the tourism industry feeds romantic ideals of culture to its patrons. My example would be Mexico. Most people go to Mexico to stay at a fancy resort on the beach, where the "culture" is portrayed as the remnants of ancient civilizations such as the Aztec, Maya, and Inca. One finds walls of towering resorts along the coast, where the people staying there are isolated from the real culture of the country. In order to actually experience the culture, one must abandon tourist attractions and seek out the natives who actively participate in the culture. That is how I have always wanted to travel, which is why I was so happy when I found this resource as an alternative to the "tourist" travel ideals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and would like to host as soon as I possibly can. I also have been promoting it as a way to connect with other people on the planet we live on.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet. Hey, we all gotta start somewhere.

Interests

I think that traveling is a no-brainer. But other than that, I graduated college with a degrees in geology and theatre arts. So obviously those two topics are of interest to me. I am a fan of art in general, and am fascinated with history, particularly modern history. Actually, come to think of it, I pretty much am interested in anything that I can learn about, which is everything.

Music, Movies, and Books

I once had a massive list here, and I didn't realize it made people have to scroll for ages in order to see the next section. So I deleted it all for the sake of sanity. Sorry.
