About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to live deep, deliberately and to suck the marrow out of life

ABOUT ME

despite the fact that i come across as a very black and white person i live almost completely in shades of grey. i'm fairly inconsistent and people tend to feel either black or white about that.

i'm a terrible sleeper. am also a shift worker. it's a chicken and egg problem.

i love schemes and adventures and can be convinced to do just about anything. i especially love jumping off stuff, even if i'm not very good at landing.

if i had to pick a song to describe myself, it would be viva las vegas. sometimes it's pretty busy and crazy in there.

PHILOSOPHY

trying to live without expectations.

(it's really hard)

also trying to transition from hedonism to epicureanism... grown up pleasure and all that. also pretty hard.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

well, i started out with a bang - i couchsurfed for the first time to get out of an accommodation jam and it completely changed the course of my life - jason who you can see in my profile picture, hooked me up with his band, who hooked me up with more bands and now i travel back and forth between australia and the US playing in bands and wondering how i got so lucky.

i've couchsurfed in lots of different places with lots of different kinds of people. there's something for everyone. recently we moved into a big enough place to start hosting and that's been amazing also.

couchsurfing is one of the strongest things that makes me feel glad to be a human and to trust in the inherent goodness of humanity.

Interests

running:: constantly amazing how we can just keep putting one foot in front of the other

music:: playing, listening, thinking. have a constant jukebox in my head. love it. love harmonies. especially big harmonies. and love big instruments, double basses, sousaphones, steel drums, anything with a bang.

fun sports:: if you can bounce off it, jump into it, shake your behind to it, climb it then i'll probably love it

lounging:: there's been an accident at the muscle relaxant factory!

food:: started running so i could keep eating. have made lifelong friends solely on the basis of my enthusiastic appetite.

Music, Movies, and Books

i love epic novels and especially epic novels that span generations of a family. i'm just starting to get into non fiction too, which is weird. now that i have an electronic book reader i can cart around the 15 novels i have going at any one time, which has certainly reduced my excess baggage fees

i love music of all kinds, especially making it or dancing to it

and same goes for movies, my secret vice is going to movies in the middle of the day by myself when nobody knows...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

day to day amazements: seeing new growth of plants, new tastes in my mouth, sublime harmonies, losing my drink out of my nose from laughing too much

Teach, Learn, Share

everyone who i've taught to surf goes on to be a better surfer than me....! i love teaching. can help with music, cooking, how to kill your vegetable patch (i've got a brown thumb), coming up with crazy ideas...
