About Me

Hello there! 😊 I’m Muhammet, a 21-year-old Philosophy student with a big passion for traveling. My home is in the beautiful city of Istanbul, but right now, I'm living at Grenoble. France is my temporary home, thanks to the Erasmus Programme. I’m here for a year, soaking up all the culture, studying hard, and just loving every moment of this adventure!

Since I’ve got my Schengen Visa, I’m on a mission to explore as many European cities as I can, learn about different cultures, and meet all sorts of amazing people along the way. I just want to be that little guest in other people's worlds. 🌍

When I’m not exploring, you’ll probably find me binge-watching TV shows and movies. But my true love? Turkish literature! I even know a bit of the old Turkish language and literature, and I’m slowly diving into the vast ocean of world literature. Different worlds and stories? They just make life richer!

Being a Philosophy student, I also have a soft spot for Ancient Greek and Latin. And as for modern languages, I’m fluent in Turkish, French, and English, and I’m trying my best to learn Arabic too. I honestly believe that the best way to truly understand a culture is through its language – it’s like unlocking a secret door into their hearts. 🗝️

Since I need to keep up with my studies, my trips are usually quick weekend adventures. But I believe that even a couple of days spent together through Couchsurfing can create some truly unforgettable memories. You know, in Turkey, we say, ‘A cup of coffee has a 40-year memory,’ and I really think there’s magic in that. ☕✨

Until July 2025, you’ll find me here in Grenoble with my lovely girlfriend, Beste. After that, it's back to Istanbul, where I’d be so happy to welcome you to my beautiful city and share a bit of my world with you. Can’t wait to connect! 🌟

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I genuinely want to meet the people of each city and country I visit and truly immerse myself in their culture. I believe that’s the best way to really discover what a place is all about! 🌍✨ And to be honest, as a student coming all the way from Turkey, my travel budget is quite limited. But hey, that’s just part of the adventure, right? 😊

Music, Movies, and Books

Sorry if I am too boring, but to be honest I experience the most emotion in Turkish, so my favourites in these matters have always been Turkish and they might be very unfamiliar to you guys :(

My favorites are always changing with my mood, but lately, since I’ve been away from home, I find myself listening to some more melancholic and nostalgic songs. It might not be the most "me" answer, but for now, I’d say I’ve been really into “Yolun Sonu Görünüyor” (The End of the Road Appears) by Cem Adrian and Musa Eroğlu, and “Kalamış,” a beautiful gazel by Münir Nurettin Selçuk. 🎶 These songs are quite different from my usual taste, but for the past few weeks, they’ve been on repeat. Of course, since they’re in Turkish, some of the magic gets lost without understanding the lyrics. 😅

As for books, let me share two incredible works from Turkish literature that I absolutely love. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s "Saatleri Ayarlama Enstitüsü" (The Time Regulation Institute) and Yusuf Atılgan’s "Aylak Adam" (The Idle Man) are my go-to favorites! 📚 When it comes to world literature, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Amin Maalouf are writers that I just can’t get enough of. I just love getting lost in their worlds. 🌍

What I Can Share with Hosts

Turkey is a country with a truly fascinating blend of cultures, having hosted tons of different civilizations and cultures throughout history, and still carrying traces of all of them today. I’m genuinely passionate about this rich heritage and would love to share it with my hosts! 😊
If they want, I can help them with their daily works such as cleaning or cooking :)
Plus, with my interest in philosophy, I believe I can bring some intriguing topics to our conversations and create enjoyable, meaningful discussions. And if my hosts ever find themselves in Istanbul, I’d be more than happy to welcome them and help them discover this incredible city in the best way possible! 🌟
