About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to speak as many languages fluently as there are while alive, to be able to play the piano as well as Liberace, to be a master at mixed martial arts, to beat class C chess players blindfolded, to beat ping pong 🏓 players rated 1500.

ABOUT ME

Hello. My name is Joe Wu. I am a single, unattached,
fully-blooded Chinese man, born and raised in the United States. I have lived in Taiwan, France, Germany, Orange county California, and China in that order. Therefore, I can converse in Mandarin Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. I can also speak Swedish and Esperanto. I speak Hungarian and Japanese, but both to lesser extents. Finally, I can get by in Italian, Dutch, and to a smaller degree Russian.

I now live in St. George, Utah right next to Santa Clara. I am NOT a Mormon.

Sincerely,
Joe Wu

PHILOSOPHY

How do you live your life? Wait until the couch surfing host meets me in case our philosophies are diametrically opposed. Since I am very political,
you may believe something different than I do. It's all right with me just as long as you are kind to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Traveling, surfing the internet, activities... there’s a lot to do here. What’s your favorite way to get involved? Smoking is not allowed where I live.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

What kinds of experiences have you had through CouchSurfing? None yet. I'm new to it. I used to be a member of SERVAS, another host-based club.

Interests

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to speak, listen to, and to study foreign languages. I like to play classical, easy listening, ragtime piano music and to improvise my own jazz and I listen to piano music every day. I enjoy watching all kinds of T.V. programs and I get a big kick out of going to movies. I practice and watch Jeet Kune Do which was created by Bruce Lee and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I am an avid chess enthusiast. I also get on the internet a lot. I can speak with anybody anywhere and preferably a language other than English. When I meet you, I would love to speak your language, but if you would rather learn English from me, I would be glad to trade teaching each other our native languages because I already taught English in China and this city in schools.

Music, Movies, and Books

Forgive me. The list of interests would not post in the order I listed them. I love all sorts of movies, music, and books. Let the couch host ask me which ones when they meet me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Share a story of something that really struck you.

My life in China. I'll tell you about it when I see you.

Teach, Learn, Share

What kinds of skills or information could you share with someone? What would you like to learn? I could teach you some foreign languages at the beginning level, English, how to play the piano, international chess, and mathematics. I tutored a high school student that went from a D to a 100% on his final in mathematics.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help with chores, I can help them with their English and other languages. I can play the piano for them. I can play international chess, the card game called "bridge", and ping pong with them.
