Sobre mí

My name Munira, in Arabic, means enlightening, brilliant, full of light (according to http://quranicnames.com/munira/), so you can call me Light.

Grew up in KSA (what my childhood friends and I fondly call the Sandbox), then from college and up to now living in Manila, PH. I just want to travel and travel and travel just for the fun of it! Actually that's not quite true. After traveling for some time now, I realized that I have to become a more responsible traveler. So now I usually look for eco-tours or do voluntourism. I think that is a way to give back to the environment or to society. Not just enjoying the place like a typical tourist but by helping the locals (be it plants, animals, or humans) of that area I learn a thing or two from them as well.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I want to meet new people and learn about what to see and do, where to go from the hosts themselves so I would know about their recommendations on a personal level. Plus having friends from all over is another great aspect of traveling the world.

Intereses

I love the great outdoors. I live in the city so I crave getting lost in nature every once in a while. Camping, surfing, scuba diving, I am up for it. A bit of an adrenaline junkie as well, I like to test my limits by stepping out of my comfort zone from time to time. It's a plus to meet interesting people along the way when I go on these adventures.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I went hang gliding in São Conrado, Rio de Janeiro and thus got a breathtaking birds-eye view of the beach and the mountains.

Got to scuba dive some parts of Apo Reef which is the Philippines' largest reef and the world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system. Fish, turtles, lots and lots of sharks.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teach: Some basic words and phrases of Filipino, my local language. I could also teach them how to cook a dish from my country.

Learn: I would like to learn about my host's culture, how to make a traditional dish of theirs (if they cook). Or we can just plain chill and swap travel stories.

Share: My advocacies. I volunteer for 2 NGOs in Manila. One organization is focused on animal welfare and the other is on community development.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Tips and tricks of everything I've learned while traveling. If they want to visit the Philippines I can help them out too. And if they love dried mangoes, sure why not, I'd give them some. :) Also, I can whip up some mojitos - the only cocktail I know how to make.
