About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet and make friends with as many people around the world and see as many things as possible

ABOUT ME

I was born and brought up all over the north of Germany due to my father's occupation in the German navy. When I was 19, I decided to move to the big city of London where I eventually studied Spanish at University. Finishing my degree I moved to Valencia, Spain for 4 years working as a Language Teacher trying to remember my German!!
I have always travelled and ended up working on a cruise ship around the Caribbean a few years ago and then worked as an Activity Tour Guide for an UK Tour Operator where I led groups cycling around Cuba and Morocco and trekking parts of Central and South America. Basically making my hobby of mountain biking my job.
I am an avid vinyl collector and have been a Dj specialising in 1950's Rhythm & Blues/ Doo Wop /Gospel 1960' Soul/ Funk/Cuban & Brazilian Latin and 1970's Ska/Rocksteady and Roots Reggae for the past 10 years.
I have been a semi vegetarian for 19 years not eating meat but I love fish and seafood.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to enjoy life and make other people happy whenever possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like old friends to come and visit and give you a perspective of your own life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have stayed with many friends around the world and love having friends visiting me in Valencia.
A few years ago I visited a friend in Milan who was on business in Hong Kong and somehow our wires got crossed and I arrived with him being still away. His flatnmate who had never met me before kindly let me stay and when my friend called two days later at his arrival at Milan airport I answered the phone with the typical Italian phrase. My friend had the shock of his life, thinking his flatmate had sublet his room while he was away. It transpired he had only called because he had lost his house key during his journey to Hong Kong and tried to make sure someone would be home to let him in, which I did!!

Interests

My mountain bike is my favourite transport in Valencia and I cycle everywhere, going out to my DJ gigs and to visit my friends.
I also re-discovered skating a few years ago, only this time its inline skating not the quod skating I did as a kid!!
I also love swimming and used to do horse riding from the age of 5 but time and money made me give it up when I moved to the UK.

Music, Movies, and Books

My passion is Jamaican music from Mento, Ska, Rocksteady to Roots Reggae and I have travelled around Jamaica a few times during the last 20 years. I always support my Dj friends wherever I am by turning up at the small clubs they play.
A few years ago I run the bar of a friend's weekly Rhythm & Blues club where everybody turned up to jive all night long, it was great fun!!
I also love Cuban & Brazilian music, especially the old son and Bossa Nova records from the 40's and 50's.
It's the same with movies, the older the better like the old Hollywood black and white movies, any genre really.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living and travelling in Cuba, what fascinating and inspiring people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can repair and maintain mountain bikes, make simple furniture, teach foreign languages, decorate flats (painting, drilling, tiling) and due to my lifelong passion for horse riding have the knowledge to teach and look after horses and stables.
I would like to learn Portuguese, how to sail and many other things, the list is too long.
