About Me

CURRENT MISSION

i am prepared for something amazing to happen!

ABOUT ME

procrastinator ad nauseum, intrepid goer-where-no-man-etc, poet and lover of light. i am figuring it out, man, or at least attempting, becoming-in-motion, the process is the profit not the prize, making my life's wine fit for the feast table as much as i may. which goes in and out on any given day and i just say hey, why watch with eyes wide and silent? divedivedive! in the ocean there are riches beyond compare, but if it's safety you seek, make for the shore. pearl-divers and shore-dwellers and very little space in the middle for dipping toes in to timidly test the water. half-heartedness does not extend into majesty! trying to sing my way into grace these days, playing and offering it up like prasad on the altar- like music, like tunes, like the memories of youth...

PHILOSOPHY

i believe that all art comes from saying YES! yes to life, to music, to grace, to joy, but also to the more difficult things we have to face. i believe in experiencing things fully and sweetly, diving in, taking large bites.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i have surfed, though not yet hosted- looking forward to it! i am constantly sending people to the web-site and singing its praises!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i surfed most recently in england while taking voice classes at trinity college of music in london. my host rob so graciously invited me to stay for the entire time i was in the city (10 days)!! i have surfed in london, barcelona and florida, and each time made lasting friends. cs is the best!

Interests

music and travel, of course, and i also am a jewelry designer who specializes in hand-knotted pearls. but above everything, music is definitely my life. i have been a touring performer for more than 20 years, always bring instruments with me when i travel abroad. i love street performing and finding cafes to play in when i arrive, and i love meeting up with fellow musicians for a good jam!

Music, Movies, and Books

books: fiction- everything by neil stephenson... loved snowcrash and zodiac, cryptonomicon took the cake! i dig charles de lint, guy gavriel kay, and old patricia mckillip, isabel allende's house of spirits left me floating, rilke's book of hours, pablo neruda makes my heart light....non-fiction- menocal's ornament of the world, elaine pagels gnostic gospels, walden...

music: dj cheb y sabbah, vas, ensemble oni wytars and belinda sykes' amazing voice, nusrat fateh ali khan's nightsong, gotan project hits my heart like light, andrew bird's latest, and earliest, for that matter. um, early miles, jai uttal (and the pagan love orchestra), paula cole, bill laswell's city of light, robert fripp's projekts, tabla beat science, azam ali and niyaz, billie holiday, ella fitzgerald's live in berlin album... this is a difficult list to limit!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i played the pennywhistle in the taj mahal, dim interior escape from the hot afternoon sun of agra. the acoustics were so amazing i just had to see, notes echoing in harmonies and dissonances around the lofty interior of a monument built to love.

Teach, Learn, Share

i can teach english, beginning flute or tinwhistle, DADGAD guitar, voice, beginning swing dancing, pearl-knotting and silver wirework.

i would like to learn italian, spanish, metal casting, jewelry soldering, glass bead making, salsa dancing and tango. amongst others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

i can share good wine, a love of learning, a joy in life, literary leanings, an interest in history and music, american folk songs, irish tunes, a dry sense of humor and an upbeat outlook on this beautiful world we share!

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
