ABOUT ME
I live in, what with the passage of time, has become my home town with my sweetie, Julia. She is also from here though we were not childhood sweethearts. We are surrounded by family and love, love, love, this place.
I am a conscious booster for the Midwest. The increasing prevalence of tattoos showing the outline of Indiana got me thinking about how how great it is here. I am thankfully able to till my little patch because of nutrient rich soil, plenty of water and a forward thinking community. I can bike everywhere I need to reach and count the number of flat tires an indicator of just how much more I'm biking. I am blessed with a steady stream of musicians to play bass with and even tour a little bit.
After college I worked in Sri Lanka and Central America, pursuing work in human rights and conflict resolution. Those experiences showed me that while that kind of intervention and work is necessary, I am better suited to working close to home, though it didn't cure me of a desire to travel.
Distant as it is I love Lake Superior.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Hosting has been my greatest opportunity. Let me know if you want to stay.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Before CouchSurfing existed a travel buddy and I slept on the porch of a family in Honduras after the pater couldn't convince the local military base to give us space for the night. He thought that as Americans the base should house us since Colin Powell had just been there.
Interests
Outdoor pursuits of most kinds, specifically sea kayaking and other paddle sports, backpacking, day hiking, XC-skiing, vertical caving. Ah me, and eating and cooking (I really miss string hoppers from Sri Lanka). Traditional Old Time (Appalachian fiddle music) is a huge part of my life. I play upright bass in a number of bands.

Music, Movies, and Books
Reading Getting Things Done right now. Liking it a lot. Also working my way through last year's New Yorker magazines. Recently picked up Iron John and want to watch The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, which is sitting on the table temptingly.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Rising from the foothills of the eastern Sierra Nevada into view of my first Sierra valley. I had to stop to catch my breath and wipe the tears from my eyes.
