Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I discovered Couchsurfing back in 2011, when I was hitchhiking around Europe. What seemed a mysterious portal of strangers turned out to be multiple colorful experiences with diverse and astonishingly hospitable people in France and Spain.

After a long break from surfing couches, I've met a few avid CSers along the way, who reminded me the kind of great and hospitable people you meet when traveling this way – so I'm back, hoping to meet more of you!

Interests

For me, interests ebb and flow, but right now it's juggling and music production. Whenever I muster up the courage and a bit of sweat, I like going for a plunge in open waters, even if it's freezing.

Urban environments - At heart a city dweller, but cannot live without open nature nearby. Show me all the skyscraper tops, underground passageways and nuclear bunkers.

Languages – both of the computer and spoken sort.

Building things, playing chess, taking photos, sleeping in tents and walking along rocky ridges; doing backflips are all up there as well :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I sometimes think I listen to odd things, but then I remember there's ambient deathmetal and grungy j-pop.
I like Italo disco, powermetal, minimal techno, 90s UK hardcore, psychedelic rock and psytrance too.

Movies: Waking Life, Koyaanisqatsi, Primer and Pulp Fiction. I'm a lazy and picky moviegoer.

Books: Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bootstrapped my Chinese and lived in a damp garage in downtown Shanghai for a year. That counts, right?

Teach, Learn, Share

– Food, good food! I'd love to cook a meal for you if you're feeling lazy some evening. I excel at curries and chillies, but will gladly try and source ingredients for some Latvian dishes too!

– The party trick that will get you claps and stares! I can teach you how to juggle balls, clubs or knifes. Maybe.

– Computer things! I can show you the ropes of making websites, apps and all that good code stuff if you like. Or just help you fix your computer.
