Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: mostly European Arthouse, Experimental or Classic Hollywood, but I'm open to and knowledgeable of just about every genres/nationality/time period. Godard, Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Kiarostami, Lynch, Hou, Tscherkassky, the Brothers Dardenne, Tarr, Herzog, the list is almost endless.
Music: BEATLES, BEATLES, BEATLES. Also, Leadbelly, Patsy Cline, Jesus Lizard, Black Flag, Mozart, Peter Brotzmann, tons of others.
Books: Flannery O'Connor, Mark Twain, Steve Gerber, Jonathan Rosenbaum, Susan Sontag, Chinua Achebe, Shirley Jackson, Richard Price, Flaubert, William Carlos Williams.... I enjoy reading about cinema, linguistics, sociology, Marxist theory, religious traditions and biology.
I hope I'm less pretentious than I sound.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
How About Two Amazing Things?
1. I watched (as part of a large audience) all 7 1/4 hours of Bela Tarr's Satantango (the 35mm print was gorgeous) in one sitting, and it was a nearly indescribable experience. The most revelatory experience I've had with any sort of Art.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love learning about the day-to-day experiences of others from all over the world, the little differences between cultures.
