About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Don't ask me for "what you want" but tell me what are you willing to give me. Before asking take my Host/Guest compatibility test. No reply in 3-5 days means I won't host you. I don't have time to answer many email
ABOUT ME
Read carefully my profile. Don't send me "copy/paste" messages.
Why did you decide to write to me? What are you willing to "share" with me?
Executive summary
Open-minded, smart, polite, interesting and cooperative in housework travellers of 25-40 y.o. are usually welcome :)
Poor in spirit, rude, spoilt, pretentious, lazy in housework, arrogant people are not compatible with me: if you have the aim to sponge off some "silly" guy for hospitality, taxi driver, meals and drinks, don’t bother even to ask to me!
Executive summary's end
BEWARE!!
Be cool! Couch surfing during the high season time (Christmas, Easter, August) is definitely NOT a good idea, because most CSer are out of the city OR pass Christmas/Easter with their families and friends, and would be extremely difficult to find a couch!
PLEASE READ MY PROFILE PROPERLY BEFORE ASKING FOR ACCOMMODATION
My nick-name "Myskin" is not an English word ("my skin", which is a little bit silly) but is a Russian surname (Мышкин, the right transliteration from Russian should be [Myškin]) that comes from a famous novel. (For the few people who knows who is Knjaz' Myshkin: I don’t identify myself in him at all; in fact, I’m thinking to change my nick-name in Stavrogin or Azazello!)
I am a funny brave guy ...who likes enjoyng the life... meeting openminded people...
I had lately the feeling that some people are only looking for a free place to crash and consider my couch (and CS in general) like a free youth hostel... and I don't like this feeling... (ok, in general I'm turning a bit pessimistic about the future of what was a great idea...).
Anyway, I'm turning more picky by now (although most of the last experiences were really great!), and if you wish to stay with me, you have to convince me that you are looking for something more than just a free place to sleep...
If I welcome you, I'll take real care of you...
I reply only to personal messages mentioning something(see above), so forget about copy-paste messages! I won't even take the pain to answer...
You are welcome! I like to host every "interesting and open minded people" from every country.
Are especially welcome:
- French (just because I like to speak French) and Russian (I would like to improve my broken Russian) people;
- travellers (I mean, not tourists) of 25-40 y.o.;
- be cool! "Are especially welcome" means you are welcome even if you are not French or Russian! :)
Usually some people think I'm a Gentleman (see my references) but, unfortunately, they are completely wrong. Besides, please, don't say that I'm a Gentleman to the women as I prefer they think I'm a rude boy :)
Despite there are some of my photos sailing on a yacht, I'm not a "professional" skipper : of course, I'm a skipper but I sail just for myself and my friends pleasure :)
I'm 100% Italian, I was born in Naples (Napoli) in the South of Italy from both parents 100% Italians and I lived there for the first 30 years of my life.
Despite the Neapolitans (like Kurdish, Rom and dwarfs) are some of the minorities most mistreated worldwide, I'm very proud to be a Southerner guy from Naples ;)
BEWARE!!!
I'm not cool nor gorgeous but I have an extremely well trained and powerfull brain and I always use it.
I don't like the mainstream. I don't have the same taste of most people and I think differently from the majority opinion.
I'm the voice out of the choir ;)
If you are my friend or relative visiting my page, you don’t need to read below. Otherwise, if you don’t know me yet and you wish to send me a hospitality request, read carefully below .
IMPORTANT
The idea of Couchsurfing only makes sense as an interpersonal & mutual exchange and not only as a "free" place to stay and a "cheap" way to travel; if you are looking only for that because you have to turn around every euro-cent, please look somewhere else.
I’m extremely selective in giving hospitality... it means that I am more interested in friendship with "interesting-open minded-polite-friendly people" than in giving/asking free accommodation and I prefer to exchange some e-mails and get to know the person a bit before hosting.
If you agree my attitude of mind, read below and follow my guide lines and requirements I have written just because I had some bad experiences in the past and I would like to avoid them in the future (these are just "common sense" of host-guest interaction; don’t be offended if I say something which is "obvious" for you because, unfortunately, for some people it needs to be told clear).
1) Before asking for accommodation, please, fill in your profile and upload (or send me) some of your clear and recent pictures (just one is not enough for me, better 5-10 because I want to see who's going to sleep under my roof!);
2) I wish to receive a hospitality request:
2.a) only if your trip is well organised in advance and after you already bought your flight tickets: tell me your flight number and timetable (can you imagine how many people asked me for hospitality and after several e-mails and wasting of my time they decided to go to Mexico or Tibet instead of Rome??? :O)
2.b) 2-3 weeks before (no last minute request and no request 4 weeks or more before);
3.a) If you think that you don't have enough time to read my profile (especially if you are a student and you are in vacation travelling somewhere): consider that I spent hours to write my profile, I’m extremely busy, I work very hardly and, actually, I don't want to waste my time reading your useless inquiry; so, don't even bother to ask for hospitality because I don't have time to host you!
3.b) Send me a request only if you want to come at my place to have the chance to meet me (not anyone "local"), spend some time together and enjoy life with me (even if just some hours);
4) If you are not travelling alone, please introduce your friend/s (see point #1; it means that I would like to read a full profile and to see 5-10 clear and recent pictures of EACH person is going to sleep under my roof);
5) Food & drink supply, cooking & washing the dishes is the duty of both parties (host and guest);
6) I’m sorry but I don’t prefer to host couples nor people travelling with relatives (mother, father, uncle, aunt, son, nephew, niece, etc.) just in case relatives are less than 22 y.o. or more than 45 y.o.;
6.1) If you are a boy and a girl travelling together, I consider you a COUPLE even if you swear that you are not a couple.
6.2) Some people complained about the verb "to prefer" because they say: "technically means that it's not what makes you the most comfortable but that you may be open to it". Obviously they are wrong, it is only a polite way (they couldn’t understand, of course, just because the lack of good manners or excess of arrogance) to say: I don’t want to host couples nor relatives !
7) Before asking for accommodation, read PROPERLY:
7.a) CS guide: how to write a couch request
7.b) Netiquette Guidelines
7.c) CS Rome group guidelines
7.d) Hosts-Guests who look for great People to meet not just couches !!! read "details" section
8) If you arranged to stay with me and you change your plans and you are not coming, I would like to know in advance!
9) If you would like to have a chance to be hosted by me:
9.a) show me that you properly read whole my profile (putting down the name of one of my favourite writers) and
9.b) tell me why you are interested in meet me and in a friendship with me ; BEWARE!! If you are not interested, it’s better tell the truth instead offend my intelligence giving generic and useless answer like: "you have a really strange but interesting profile and sense of humour" or "you speak French and Russian" or "you like Tolstoj and Bulgakov";
9.c) you are kindly requested to do the "host-guest compatibility test©" below (see point 12) ;)
10) When I’m a guest I (like all the polite and grateful people) try to "give" generously something back in exchange and "refund" the host for hospitality by: cooking and washing the dishes, supplying food and drink, inviting to the restaurant, buying drinks and/or little presents, and so on... I don't matter about money, but I simply couldn't stand someone (neither myself!) who's using host's help to get a holiday for free! Did you ask to yourself what do you "give" in exchange for the hospitality?
If you are a "professional sponger" who couldn’t understand the text above and/or you are so arrogant and/or broke (as poor as a church mouse) that you are willing to share only chat (?) and your company (??) or maybe "4 tea bags" (?!?!; all based on real CS experience), you are allowed to do it through CS but please look somewhere else.
Beware: as you can easily understand reading my profile and watching my pictures and considering my lifestyle, I don’t really need the small money value you can provide: it is only a matter of a goodwill/friendly gesture from you just because I don’t like to feel myself exploited. Please note that even beggars are willing to share the few they have like a meal and/or a drink.
11.a) CS is a safe place for every woman, especially if your host is male (see "How I participate in CS" section below). However, if you are a woman and you are so "conservative" that you are looking for a "safe place like woman or family" but you don’t find it, try to be at least a bit "consistent" with yourself and don’t ask hospitality to a single man (like me) just because you are too desperate! Indeed my place is only for interesting-open-minded-adventurous people.
11.b) I have an extremely high "CouchSurf requests replied to" score. Anyway, if you don't receive a reply to your CS request in 3-4 days, it means that I can not host you.
11.c) I usually appreciate when people try to be polite and at least greet at the beginning and at the end of a letter (writing "Hello" or "Dear" followed by my name and "Best regards" or "Cheers"). If you don’t know how to do it, you need to learn some good manners before asking for hospitality.
12) "Myskin host-guest compatibility test©"
Questions from 12.1 to 12.22: courtesy from the "Alessandrol host-guest compatibility test©" (based on real CS experience! please, don’t ask me again if is it real because I’m clearly stating that it is real).
Tell me how many "yes" and to what questions you answered "yes" (it is enough; you are not supposed to write something about each questions; you can do just if you LOVE it ;)
12.01) Staying more days without helping in cleaning is ok?
12.02) Using my personal bath towel/robe and not yours or ones I provided to you is ok?
12.03) Bad smells are ok?

12.10) Asking accommodation without reading host profile requirements is ok?
12.11) Are You not able to make a phonecall without having your own cellphone with you? (when you don’t have your cellphone with you: Yes = you are so lazy and spoiled that you CAN’T make a phonecall using a public payphone; No = you are so smart and cooperative that you can make a phonecall using a public payphone)
12.12) Are You a couple girl-boyfriend or man looking for accommodation?

12.24) When you are a CS guest, should you be served like in a hotel or restaurant?
12.25) Aren't you really interested in a friendship with your host?
12.26) CS is like an Ebay auction: sending several copy-and-paste CS requests and accepting the first positive answer or the positive answer that could be more convenient for you (disregarding the other potential host involved in your request) is fine?
12.27) Is my home like a free "full board hotel" (the only difference with a real hotel is that any service is provided for FREE and you don't have to pay anything)?
12.28) Is my home a place where you just need to make a "reservation" for you and your friend/s (it doesn’t matter if you don’t introduce them providing some information and they don’t have a CS profile)?
12.29) Staying more days and having everyday the home dinner with me without providing and sharing any food and/or drink is fair?
12.30) Leaving everyday my guest room in a right mess and do not made your bed in a proper way (because this is not your business) is nice?
12.31) Walking downtown Rome wearing the slipper/flip flop shoes (like some USA and Far East Asian girls) is fancy?
12.32) Leaving my dinner table during a meal (I cooked and provided for you) because you have to chat with your friend through Internet using my computer in my studio room for more than 40 minutes and letting me staying alone, is fair?
12.33) Going to sleep at 10,30 p.m. (??) during the week end because you are tired (???) and disregarding whole my plans, is nice?
12.34) After having been my guest, don’t even bother to leave a friendship request and/or a reference, is fair?
12.35) Can’t you come to a restaurant with me (of course, not everyday just one or two times per week) and pay for your own meal 15-20 euros because you can’t afford it? (Yes=you can’t come; No=you can come)
12.36) For female only: Did you ask hospitality to me just because you were too desperate as you didn’t find a "safe" place like "woman or family"?
If you don’t agree my attitude of mind and ALL my guide lines and requirements, please, don’t even bother to ask for hospitality.
PERSONAL DESCRIPTION
I never been a shy person. I presume that is because I am very deep set in my beliefs (doesn't mean that I am not easy going) I mean in the sense, I do not pretend to be someone I am not. I prefer that someone likes me for who I "REALLY" am and thus I prefer to be me all the time. If someone does not like me for me... well then we are both much further ahead.
I like travelling, receiving "some kind" of guests (very special people), sailing, scuba diving, skiing, learning and speaking foreigners languages (especially Russian and French), reading, clubbing, hang out with friends, eating tasty food and drinking red wine.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
From my friend “ Alessandrol CS page
A great well done job that helps souls to connect and share !
About security of your travel (very important) you have two issues:
1-in ANY crowded jamming place in Europe (and world ;) and especially in Southern Europe (particularly bus, trains, train stations, sightseeing locations, fairs, festivals) you will risk being hit by smugglers, so:
ALWAYS leave documents, tickets and money in the hotel safe or host house;
download your digital pics to a cd in a street photo shop every 2-3 days (if they steal the camera you keep the pic of your trip); take with you only the money and one card you could need for the day in a small money wallet with a neck hanging strap(use purse only for female stuff;-) (if it get stolen you make a big laugh then ;-), bring a photocopy of your documents and store in a different place from the original documents (very smart is storing document scanning on a internet server), write down the phone numbers to call IMMEDIATELY to block your credit/debt cards and their numbers,
avoid flashy jewels always but especially when walking alone.
2-avoiding "too much male pressure while sightseeing" or worste situations:
for this ask and listen carefully and rely 100% on your local host advice tips and/or company (with a well commented local male host you can go everywere, anytime, anydressed in any town).
If you follow this 2 simple guidelines your trip will be VERY safe (just enjoy Art, People, Culture, Sights, eat good Italian gourmet dining and relax ;)
Another very important issue from myself
3- Get yourself an Italian mobile telephone number SIM card (Italian operators are: Vodafone/Wind/TIM/3-Three) to keep in contact with your host and other fellows couch surfers. You will need your passport/ID card to get one. An Italian prepaid SIM card costs around 10 euro, and comes with 5 euro in credit for phone calls. Ask the seller to put another 10 euro credit at the same time.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
IMPORTANT NOTE
Some people (especially from France) think that my simple-hearted request to see their clear and recent pictures (not just one!) could be “weird and suspicious”(!?!?).
Otherwise, I think that kind of people are “weird and suspicious” and they have something to hide so, of course, I don’t like to host them.
So, please, if you agree with that people, don't even bother to ask for hospitality.
RECOMMENDED HOSTEL IN ROME
Here on CS I collected from various members some messages about accommodation in Rome. I hope it could be useful.
Termini railway station area (central but not very clean nor safe)
If you are in trouble finding an accommodation in Rome you can check out this one www.yellowhostel.com some American friends of mine stayed here and say that is really ok.. it's near Termini Station...
Another USA guy wrote: “Without a doubt, the BEST hostel I have stayed at in all of my travels is The Beehive in Rome. www.the-beehive.com
It is two blocks from Termini Train station, run by a great ex-American couple, feels like a hotel, and compared to the other hostels (dives, because I´ve seen them) it is an oasis. It costs $23 per night, but with free internet, towels, spotless private bathrooms, down feather pillows and duvet, organic cafe... but I recommend you call or email them for a reservation”.
A traveller form Singapore recommended Hotel Lella (they provide not only dormitory but double room as well)
http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Hostel-Lella/Rome/20484
Prati-Vatican Area (quite central and very nice)
Also Pensione Ottaviano www.pensioneottaviano.com or Hostel Colors www.colorshotel.com : these hostels are pretty central and located close to the Vatican instead the other ones are all around the dirty and unsafe main railway station (Termini).
Camping
Check out also Plus Camping Roma www.gomio.com/tfwebforms/hosteloverview.aspx?hostelId=665&languageId=1 a bit out of downtown but pretty much well connected and definitely the cheapest option after the park benches!
Otherwise, have a search on Google using “BB Roma” you can spend from 17 to 25/30 euros per person.
You can also check:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Despite I'm an experienced scuba diver, I have seen the most interesting things under-the-see doing... snorkeling! :O
Swimming with coral reef grey sharks (2 mt) in Belize coral reef natural park, close to San Pedro Isalnd & devil fish (Manta birostris) in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt! Amazing!!!
Types of People I Enjoy:
FOR GUESTS
I'm a single man and my flat is quite messy...just to warn you in case you should expect a "proper" Italian "housewife" apartment... :-)
I'm usually busy by working during daytime, from around 9 a.m. :-(
So, I'm sorry, but you have to leave my flat before that time and to be quite independent.
Anyway, I'll be quite happy to spend time with you in the evening and go out with my friends, have fun and maybe have some party.
I’m sure that you are an extremely kind and polite person but, as I had some bad experiences in the past and I would like to avoid them in the future, please, don't take my home like a "free full board ho(s)tel" or a "free restaurant"!
Instead, come with open minds wanting to "share" something. It means, please, don't come late night, have a shower, go to sleep, leave next morning, come last night and so on... Also don't EXPECT meals here. I hardly do something for myself.
FOR HOSTS
I'm very independent and adaptable, and I think very respectful of your privacy, you don't need to be my guide, to take care of me, nor to cook for me. But when possible I'd like to spend evenings with you, according to your plans and free time, share opinions, breathe the atmosphere, see your country and your culture through your eyes.
PEOPLE I ENJOY
Open minded, friendly, who likes having fun...funny people who loves life...
I like to meet with people, who are honest and truthful. I pay much attention to the saying "A friend in need is indeed", even though I always try my best to solve problems myself.
I have no superiority complex and I am happy to have friends from all walks of life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach:
- the Italian language, if you are interested in;
- how to cook the Italian food, especially in a very delicious "style" of Naples
- something about astro-phisics: the stars, the black holes, the quasars, the origin of the Universe.
I'm learning Russian language for 6 years... but I'm not so proud of my Russian (still beginner level) and I would like to improve it :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
Personal Philosophy
Life in harmony with the nature and the Earth.
I trust myself. Despite I had a Spartan/rigid education and I work very hardly, during my spare time I'm quite a hedonistic person and I love to be surrounded by the "beauty".
The Hall of Infamy (or the Hall of Fame of Stupidity)
[Female, Russia, 33 y.o. (RW)]
RW: May I provide some food?
Me: thanks, but it doesn’t matter….
RW: but you wrote on your profile that the guest are supposed to be willing to share some food…
Me : ok, if you like you can buy a bottle of wine
RW: sorry, but I can’t because I don’t know the wine
Me : ?!?!?!?! (without words…)
[Female, Serbia, 46 y.o.]
Hi,
The reason I don't have my photos on HC is that I'm just far too good looking and I don't want people to write to me just because of my looks. You know, I have brain, too. :-)
[omissis ]
I'm not enclosing a photo of me on purpose. Don't get me wrong, but I don't know you at all and I don't share my photos with strangers. Then again, if I were to send you a photo and then you don't write back or don't want to meet I might think that's because you didn't like me (which is, actually, impossible :-) ), so then I'll feel bad. On the other hand, I'm not some physical monster that you could be imbarassed for being seen in public with, so if you feel like chatting and have some free time over the next few days - you'll be safe and fine.
[Female, USA, 23 y.o.]
A couple of my girlfriends and are heading to Rome the 9th of December and we're looking for a place to hang out / call home and some one to tell us/ show us where all the action is at.
Me: Hi, what do you mean about "call home"?
(actually, she didn’t even bother to reply….)
[Female, Taiwan, 26 y.o.]
To me I want to choose someone who has a lot of experiences, better a woman or a family, that's safer to me.
(I’m not a woman nor a family. I’m a single guy!. Why is she asking hospitality to me? See point 11.a!)
[Female, Argentina, 24 y.o.]
If you're not interested, how u pretend that I will be?...
Definitively, there's stupid people arroud...
Look at rhe mirror, you're a little bit narcicist don't you think???...
Have to told you that i red your favorite writer!!! come on!, are you ok???... about your self only sais that have a fancy hobbie, sailing what ever you sail... but not much more, oh, you must hate mc donalds... please...
You test is offesive to my intelligence.
[Female, Ukraine, 46 y.o., completely empty profile]
(she asked for hospitality by a standard copy-and-paste message)
Bonjour!
Moi aussi "I think differently from the majority opinion".
Donc, je ne place pas mes photos sur net.
Avant de laisser passer dans ma vie privé, comme vous dites,"tell me why you are interested"!
Cordialement,
[Female, USA-Korea, 23 y.o. (NC)]
NC: I have a place to stay at a host's house but maybe we can meet for coffee or something? :)
Me: of course, maybe we can meet for a coffee.
Note that we have to arrange a meeting well in advance cause I'm extremely busy.
I work from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6.30 pm.
Cheers
P.S.
After 6 years of CS, I can say that unfortunately nobody want to meet local people just for a coffee. They are only interested in taking advantage of free hospitality.
NC: No worries, I can assure you that I'm not going to take advantage of free hospitality. I won't need a host; I have found a place :)
Thanks anyway; best to you!
[Female, China-Austria, 21 y.o. (YL)]
YL: [she asked for hospitality by a standard copy-and-paste message] looking through ur profile , i found that u are a nice person to stay with:p
Me: what are you willing to share in exchange of your hospitality? ;)
YL: enen,it`s a good question, we`re truthful guys ,we`d like to share everything we know to u
Me: OMG! :O Read carefully my whole profile. Especially point 10)! :-p
YL: Just change my mind....
Me: My place is not available for those who want only take advantage of free hospitality...
YL: i am also not interested in people who expect more and always want to get something from others.
Me: Look yourself at the mirror. People who expect more and always want to get something from others (without giving anything in change) are people like YOU.
This people is usually called SPONGERS and I can't really stand them.
[Female, China, 20 y.o. (LT)]
LT: …so that we need someone to host us for 3 days:):):):):) We will be really really really really appreciative if you host us!t host us-can you meet us one evening to go to some restaurant or pub that locals go or show us some super local place?
