About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore, Discover, Grow

ABOUT ME

I'm in my early twenties and looking for adventure and interesting sights/people along the way. I pretty much grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, a place that certainly holds a special place in my heart. But, things must change sometime and I'm looking for new experiences not afforded to me by my hometown, so I have decided to leave.

I am a student of Eastern Michigan University, I think in between junior and senior in terms of credits, and studying political science and economics. Politics and political activism are very important to me, but I am always willing to listen and understand others and their own perspectives on this world.

I love to be outside. I grew up taking family trips camping, kayaking, and hiking when I was younger. I always held a certain envy for those who were treated to Disneyworld visits, but now I have come to really appreciate these experiences and how they have shaped me. Ann Arbor has a beautiful downtown along with many parks and recreation areas, all of which I have spent much time enjoying and relaxing.

I would also like to take my time traveling as an opportunity to explore my writing more and tear myself away from the computer/internet. I want to find new inspirations of all sorts through the places I visit and the people I meet.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything, every experience is an opportunity to learn something new and useful. When something bad happens to me, I ask myself, "what can I learn from this?" I believe in opening my mind to everything and holding no explicit bias. We are all who we are for a reason, and are each shaped by our experiences in our past. Always try new things. you never know when you may find your passion. Humility is one of the most important virtues.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, I will not have a couch, because I am traveling, but I have housed many surfers before at a previous residence.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to live at a vegetarian student co-op in Ann Arbor, where we housed a number of couchsurfers from all walks of life. We had families, individuals, and friends stay with us. Having a chance to meet, communicate and share meals with others from around the world (we had people from Brazil, Korea and Japan) helped me make many positive reflections on the hopes for humanity through active communities. We housed a couple that were traveling the U.S. in a converted school bus that ran off fry oil; we had an international student group that were in the area to raise money for AIDS in Africa; we had a mother, daughter and son stay with us for a few days before they moved on to Canada for good. All in all, it was because of these positive experiences that I have come here to experience couch surfing "from the other side of the couch".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Birth

Teach, Learn, Share

I have worked as an English tutor at a local community college for 3 years. I love teaching and have considered it as a career. I also know my way around the inside of a car and car repair. I worked as the maintenance manager for a semester at my co-op. I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge and wisdom and will lend my ear and mind whenever possible.
