About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see new sights, meet cool people and eat some awesome food!

ABOUT ME

Right now, I'm traveling a bit around Southeast Asia. I just finished working in Gwangju, Korea for a year. I was an English teacher to some lovely (and some bratty) kids. It was an amazing opportunity to live in and absorb an amazing culture.

A bit about me, I'm pretty easy going, friendly and laugh really easily. I love listening to stories. I get scared very easily, anything from a spider to..anything really. I enjoy playing with kids. I like exploring but I don't like bugs -__-

I just bought an e-reader and have been enjoying the latest edition of the Game of Thrones series. I like watching sitcoms, currently laughing out loud at Phil in Modern Family. Another classic that I still rewatch is The Office.

PHILOSOPHY

I want to live a happy life, being surrounded by people I love. I want to exert my time and effort into something I am passionate about.

I'm at a crossroads of sorts right now. I'm about to wrap up my traveling and head home to 'settle down'. As much as I enjoy traveling, I am looking forward to buying my first apartment and getting a job.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My first experiences with couchsurfing was when I had been for a semester abroad in Milano. My flatmates introduced me to the site and I took full advantage as a cheap student would.

Through my travels, I realized that couchsurfing was so much more than a free couch, I had such awesome times with my hosts. From going to a park past midnight and listening to guitar tunes in Rome to participating in a Parisian wig party! I've met some amazing people and will never forget their warmth and hospitality.

Indeed, I've had the chance to host some lovely people myself in Mississauga and Gwangju, some of whom I still keep in contact with ;)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been rather lucky in finding hosts and surfers :)
Everyone I've met has been a real peach. My last surfer, Yeaji, had come to Gwangju from Seoul, for an art exhibit (Bienale). She showed me around the exhibits, taught me about art, what she was studying, and we discussed (I mostly listened) Korean politics. Yeaji is an awesome lady and I met her again, except this time in her city. She took me around the neatest areas, we had tea in this lovely shop and ate a warm, delicious meal. Thanks Yeaji! I hope to see you again in Canada!

Interests

I like cooking, eating out, watching shows, reading, taking photographs, cooking..and more.

Currently, I don't have a kitchen in my apartment, so, I've been happily eating out at some awesome Khmer and international cuisine restaurants. Although, while in Korea, I really enjoyed cooking Korean food. I made stews, fried tofu, glass noodles, and a bunch of other cool dishes.
Oh, I also really enjoy baking. I'm still learning so I tend to be a hit or a miss with my stuff, usually, I fare pretty well..I think.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It was a long time ago but when I was in Milan, through the help of my landlady, I was able to get into the '09 s/s men's Burberry show! It was an amazing experience, especially since, at that time, I was reading and learning about fashion. I attempted to take photographs of the models, pretending to be a fashion blogger, all of which ended up a blur...but, it was really cool nonetheless. I even got to take a shot of myself with Scott Schuman, of The Sartorialist.

Teach, Learn, Share

Of the top of my head, I can share my experience unionizing a major retail store. As one of the campaigners, I got to work one-on-one with the union reps. I organized pep parties, spoke about the pros/cons to coworkers, and had to deal with some unpleasant situations with head office. It was a wonderful/terrible time but I was so passionate during the entire process. I would love to share my story!
