About Me

Hi! My name is Nabilah, and I was born and raised in Malaysia. I have been abroad for quite some time now, in which I enjoy every single bit of the adventure and I'm looking forward to more. I graduated from Purdue University and I am currently working as a research technician there. My end goal is to do a PhD in Neuroscience, with a particular interest in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanism of learning and memory. Throughout college, I've been fortunate to do two study abroad programs in addition to me already studying abroad in the States! I did a research internship in Seoul for two months and I also did an exchange program for a semester in Sweden. Within that time, I got to travel around South Korea and Europe; and it was undeniably one of the best experiences I had in life so far. I love travelling, exploring new places, learning new cultures and meeting new people. I consider myself a foodie and enjoy indulging in good food! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I wasn't sure how safe Couchsurfing was and I've never used Couchsurfing until a trip that I did with my friend back in Sweden. She was in charge of looking for accommodation during that period and she depended solely on Couchsurfing. All of the hosts whom we stayed with were so kind and helpful that I decided I should return the favor and start couchsurfing too!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Freshman year of college, I was a clueless 17 year-old who came to study in the States all the way from Malaysia. That summer, I decided to volunteer for a youth conference in Baltimore, MD and a science conference the following week in New York City. I was all alone and navigated through the foreign cities, feeling fearful and worried about my safety. But I did it! I met so many new people who were very helpful in my adventure - from hosting me in their homes, cooking me dinner, making sure I safely arrived in New Jersey to visit a friend, giving me a ride to the airport when I missed my flight etc. And all of these people are strangers. Looking back, I still wonder how did I get the courage to do what I did three years ago and I am grateful for all the kind souls God send in my way.
