About Me

I'm an Egyptian-American studying to get a double bachelor's degree (psychology and marketing) in North Texas. Passionate about humanitarian work and hope to one day use my skills in the non-profit sector. Involved with Unicef as my university's president of a Unicef campus club and I'm very supportive and excited about the fantastic work they do for children's welfare.

I take a large interest in world history and love hearing about obscure figures or political events. I really love learning about the dark histories of cities (such as Jack the ripper in London, or the guillotine and various assassins that lived in France).

I love musical theatre and the dramatic arts, and I love foreign soap operas. I don't know why they seem to be pervasive in every culture but I love how common some of the tropes are. I guess drama is universal.

My biggest passion projects lately are working on a science-fantasy graphic novel and attempting to learn Egyptian cuisine and document it on a private food blog that maybe I will one day finally make public. I am a domestic person and taking care of people and feeding them is my love language.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love interacting with people and learning about them and their experiences! As you can tell from what I'm studying in college, my special interests and the extra curricular activities I'm involved in, I am very much a people person. Learning about peoples history, culture, food, passions and personal experiences brings so much enrichment to me. And in my involvement with Unicef and other charities, there is such an emphasis on being a global citizen and being compassionate and communicative with all other peoples of different walks of life.

I would love to use this to connect with people as online pals, have meet-ups, exchange experiences and make new memories.

Interests

I love outdoor activities and recreation. Hiking, camping, swimming, kayaking, especially with my dog Tiberius as my partner in crime.

I love science fiction and comic books. My dog is named Tiberius after Captain Kirk because I am an enormous fan of Star Trek. My favorite comic book is a pretty loaded question. I like biographical/historical graphic novels such as Persepolis and Maus, and more obscure titles such as Biologic Show, but I also love the classics such as X-men, Batman, and Captain America and I love the history and mythology behind the characters.

I'm also the biggest broadway nerd. I love musical theatre, I love show tunes, I love Bette Midler and Audra Mcdonald and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Egyptian music, especially when I'm in a funk. It always gets me in a better mood after a rough day. David Bowie will forever be my biggest crush. I will always be haunted by how much I loved (and still love) My Chemical Romance and their frontman Gerard Way.

My favorite movie is Amelie. Also Legally Blonde. My favorite T.V. show is probably Star Trek (All of them, though there is an order of preference) and Avatar the Last Airbender. I know it's a kids show but the character development is just phenomenal. Also anything on the food network.

My favorite books are Momo, Le Petit Prince and The Innocence of the Devil.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've met with Senators and U.S. Representatives to talk about children's rights and to ask for continuing government support of Unicef.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share some really interesting stories such as the time I accidentally texted a celebrity, my stay in quarantine in Egypt and various other absurdities. I would also love to share my love of history and literature and my love of the culinary arts. I am also trying to learn as many languages and cultures as possible so I would love to have an exchange with you.

You can expect that I will cook for you at some point if we have in person interactions.

I'm also a walking trivia machine but I'm also an observer so I can have a long winded conversation OR just listen to you talk about your passions for hours if you so please.
