About Me

Back home on Oahu after a few crazy years in Hong Kong! I am friendly, easy-going, and adventurous - I like to make the most of my time doing things I love, being with people I love, and learning and growing through new experiences. I love being outside and work in conservation, mostly reforestation work and endangered species management.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I reflect on my travels, it's the people I've met who stand out the most and have really made the difference between an interesting trip and a truly memorable and meaningful experience. Connecting with people is an important part of connecting to a place, and what better way to meet local people than through Couchsurfing - to spend a day or more experiencing life through their eyes, to sleep and live as they do, to learn their perspectives and thoughts on the place they live. I also love to share with guests all the places that are meaningful to me, and to see my own home through fresh eyes. The incredible generosity and hospitality I've experienced from hosts, and that sense of real love and connection with people you've just met, never fails to touch me and keep alive my faith in humanity. I love the constant adventure that is Couchsurfing - learning to find a way to connect and get along with whoever shows up at your door, or whoever opens the door to you, however different a world they might be coming from.

Interests

Most of all, I love the outdoors. I work in conservation, spending my workdays in the forest climbing mountains searching for invasive plants and planting natives. I love learning about local ecology and the native flora and fauna. Connecting with the land and the ocean is important to my sense of place. I'm down for any outdoor activity - hiking, surfing, diving, etc.

I also play Balinese gamelan, and love to dance. In Hawaii I co-directed a Bollywood/Indian dance company (Aaja Nachle Hawaii). I also enjoy salsa though I don't do it enough!

I love late night discussions, trying new (vegetarian foods), learning just about anything
