well i love so much... Gould plays Bach has to be listed, Tom Waits, AbdelHalim Hafez, John Zorn, James Brown...
Books, well - i tend not to read to many prose novels - mostly nonfiction (philosophy, psychology, science, history etc.), poetry (among my english favorites are William Blake, Yeats, and T.S. Eliot), and SciFi (again my favorites: PKD, Alfred Bester, Frank Herbert, etc.
"The Hamlet Letters" by Henry Miller was a book i loved.
movies - i like too many to even begin and specify. a recent one was "Broken Flowers", which i really enjoyed.

One time, I met an amazing fellow in circumstances best left unelaborated.
We sat on the curb in a busy street, and talked for hours. Not only was I learning a great deal, but to my delight he also found value and meaning in what I had to say. At one point he asked - has god ever spoken to you? Something in me sunk, a taste-like intimation of disappointment. Not again, I thought to myself, not another preacher/guru type masquerading as a friend, not another salesman of mock spirituality.
No, I answered, never did god speak to me; why, did he ever speak to you?
And he said, yeah he did, just the other day in fact. I was standing in this hallway, see, and I lit up a cigarette. God spoke to me then; he said - put that cigarette out. just this one cigarette.
