ABOUT ME
I'm taking some leave from my job as a lawyer in London to go and volunteer in a human rights organisation in Bangalore. Let's see how Indian bureaucracy compares to the Russian model...
PHILOSOPHY
Never stop asking questions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My best couchsurfing experience is with my flatmate, Dan. Yes, that's cheating, but he's also a couchsurfer and we have so much fun together, whether we share an apartment or travel together.
There is one problem, and that is that he eats all my food. There is another problem, which is that Dan will be off to Kazakhstan soon, so it will solve the first problem, but means that he's leaving me behind in London. So the solution is that I'm going to join him for a litte Kazakh (or Kyrgyz) adventure!
Interests
cooking & eating! i'd like to think i'm big on the outdoors too, but that being said I have been known to spend too many afternoons just reading in the sunshine... hang on, that makes me an outdoors person... I like camping :)
Camping was taken to another extreme recently when I thought it would be a great idea to spend new year's eve in Siberia near Lake Baikal. This involved 5 adults sleeping in a tiny hunter's cabin in the middle of the forest, and the status of the "great" idea was severely re-assessed, but waking up in the morning and walking into the snow at -25C and seeing everything white and pristine is one of the most beautiful feelings and I would definitely do it again!

Music, Movies, and Books
'A Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and I'm loving it, it's so colourful and is making me want to go on holiday! also get distracted by Isabel Allende, and Noam Chomsky. Yes I wear very thick glasses. Thank God for contact lenses...
There are too many books to list, but recently went into an old bookstore in Geneva and bought some Beauvoir and some Camus, the latter of which I particularly adore - he seems so effortlessly poetic!
Music is great, I cry too much at the movies. But I've been a loser recently and haven't been keeping up with any of this. Trying to keep up with my life first!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ran the London Marathon in April 2007 in atrocious heat and wearing a stupid purple wig and outfit - it matched the colour of the logo for the charity I was raising money for... pictures on request only.
Teach, Learn, Share
the best gratin dauphinois: use double cream (obscene amounts of), slice the potatoes really thin (par-boil them beforehand for best results) and throw in a few cheeky cloves of garlic... snowy parmesan over the top and leave to grill for 5 mins then serve...simple and oh so satisfying. don't forget freshly ground black pepper.
