About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Thinking of how to fly high in the sky

ABOUT ME

I am a backpacker, and I like to travel differently.

I studied politics, majoring in international affairs with journalism minor at graduate school. My real passion lies in knowing stories of different people, especially who are passionate about their lives and be willing to make a difference to their people around and society at large. Having graduated from my undergraduate business education, I am also impressed by innovation in different interesting business models with new inspiration of making this world a better place to live.

I was exchange student in Denmark (Copenhagen) and US (Chapel Hill, North Carolina) for a year.

I was in New Zealand for my first ever working holiday at age of 24. It is one of the best experience ever in my life and in case you realize that in profile, my soul still lie there with the best and most important friends there in my other home down South in another part of the world.

Now, I live in Hong Kong and work in both Hong Kong and Taiwan as a marketer.

My future traveling plan:
1. Go on a voluntary trip again. I did twice, one in Ghana helping to promote microfinance in rural areas (indeed a place without fresh water, electricity and toilet) and the other one in Peru, teaching English in a voluntary school to kids despite the fact that I don’t know a single word of Spanish. I later on picked up Spanish very quickly as I was forced by those non-English speaking kids at school
2. Go on a trip by hitchhiking. It should not be that difficult because I know one of my friends, who is a girl and from Malaysia, could travel in New Zealand for a complete whole year just on her thumb without any public transport! But yes it works better for girls than boys as they are more eye-catching walking on road :P
3. Go somewhere starry again. Have you ever slept under the full galaxy with millions of stars hanging on the sky at night? If so, you know what I mean.
4. Go on a “wild” trip by bike or on foot, and camping all along the way. Yes don’t you think that it sounds so cool to explore the land all by your own effort?
5. Go and live on an isolated island for a period of time. And see if I can survive in a place with no water (bring bottled of course XD), no electricity (ok for me and I make sure I have brought enough reserve battery for phone and camera XD), no toilet (should not be a problem if you can smartly separate your living place with your designated toilet area XD), no food (maybe an island can offer me plentiful veggies??) and no people around. Well I can handle the water electricity toilet or food part. But not having people around, it is the time for me to reflect my entire life in absolute quietness.
6. Go on a trip and stay with all couchsurfing friends. Well, this would need your help :)

(written in 2010) Just finished my Master in International and Public Affairs at the University of Hong Kong. Now planning and preparing to go on working holiday in New Zealand in the year to come!

PHILOSOPHY

TO live passionately with a dream in heart

Interests

A list for the coming year

Finish travelling around Taiwan by bike! Yes, it is finally on my list as I saw some of my friends have already finished or upgraded that adventurous mission to walking around Taiwan on foot!!!

Tried exploring Hong Kong on foot and visit the historical and culture stories behind. It comes to my headache whenever I have to show my friends around Hong Kong with only limited thoughts on those typical touristic destinations. There should be somewhere else which can uniquely present Hong Kong not only as a standardized tourist destination, international city or shopping paradise. This whole idea was inspired by my friends from Taiwan who started up a project to share all those little places and stories which are ignored or missed by people in everyday life. I want to create a secret travel list for my dear friends who are visiting Hong Kong. And if you are interested in this too, feel free to come to me 

Start a blog and share daily life and thoughts in writings with my friends. Great if I can co-own this blog with my friends so that I can contribute weekly on its content and make sure that it is not abandoned with time XD

As of 2003, in two year time, target to achieve N3 in Japanese (obtain good enough communication ability with locals and be able to talk to my Japanese friend in Japanese as I have promised) and B1 in Spanish.

Initiate a social project to help people around and join a voluntary project long-term and work for them on weekly basis

Improve my Chinese and English! My writing skills have been deteriorated endlessly since high school >-<

Get to know more friends, more good friends. I think 12 good friends per year will be good enough for me (so 1 each per month XD). I indeed enjoying talking with people and knowing people from different backgrounds and culture. Man of my thoughts and ideas come from some very special friends of mine throughout my travelling journey. And I believe that by positively influencing one another can help to sharp a better world and constantly remind myself what type of person I always want to be.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to listen to stories, and also like to share my stories to you if you are interested  One of most remarkable achievement in my life should be completing the mission of having my footprints left in six continents on the world at age of 24! Yet, it is still a long way to go until I plan to go back and visit friends from different parts of the world who I knew on my way. And, of course, I plan to expand my footprint forever to other undiscovered part of the world.

I am fluent in English, Chinese Mandarin, and Chinese Cantonese (used in Hong Kong). I may give you an “introductory” level of travelling language courses or be your pen friends in these languages for sure. I have also studied Spanish and Japanese for more than a year. I can speak, read and write easy Espanol and is passionate to perfect it as one of my fluent languages in two year time (as of 2013). Nihongo, there are so much to memorize and I don’t mind that you offer a little help to me if you happen to be nihongo expert. I can trade my English Chinese or little Spanish with you in return :)
