About Me

NOTE: Good luck reading my whole profile because i wrote this back in 2007 but Im sure I'm similar + added years of wisdom.

CURRENT MISSION

DO: Arouse the wonderfully weird things of life aka curiosity

ABOUT ME

Celebrating the quintessential, quirkiness, creativity and warmth that a stranger can incite.Ok, I think I can be fun and adventurous at times or be the opposite and laid back. I try to be imaginative, be a kid again, be stupid, be crazy, be spontaneous, be all of the above. At the moment, it is through my weird yet fun and challenging design creations ; questions I may ask people (weird ones are the ones I am especially good at); my bizarre thoughts and ideas (well at least that's what Ive been told); and with my references I leave for people on CS (which im still yet to finish).I´m talkative, I´ve been told but I rather say a conversationist is a more fitting word.I'm not offended if you want some silence =)My forte is to be opinionated and therefore enjoy the exchange of ideas that encompasses all ranges of thinking and saying so, nothing should be taboo. I have a thirst for knowledge and learning whatever people can teach me. The world is full of information and I want to know as much as I can get.I am trying to fulfill the idea that life should be interesting and entertaining, not mundane and routine. So I am the person who will order that thing on the menu, which I have no clue of, just out of curiosity.Fall into musical trances regularly. Play word smith, I enjoy painting an exotically exciting play of words plus im sick to death of dull badly written english. On my adventures, when i walk, i dont know where I'm going, i follow what i smell, what i feel, what looks right, i follow my instincts and getting lost is the process. With no direction at all i find myself at the mercy of the unknown, my potential is endless. Who knows where I'll be, maybe treating myself to tasty local street treats or welcomed into a home or playing with local kids or learning the local lingo or trying out some charades, who knows. There is so much to learn, why this, who is this, what is this, when was this. On the street level is where you can find local musicals drumming a beat and bringing joy to all who dance along and it is this that tempts me to try out those dance moves. Its the simplicity of the every day life that brings me so much joy, for life is full of surprises ready for you to uncover. To appreciate this requires patience and similarly with good food, you must savour it. So let it be here where you spend all the time you need.

PHILOSOPHY

"One's destination is one's experiences"

"Question everything?"

"Don´t be safe, try something new"

"When I remember a place, I remember, the things I did, what I saw, how I felt and the people I experienced it with, not what tourist attractions I did or didn't see"

"To know the people, is to know the city.
For it is the people that make up the city, not the other way"

"I make money but money doesn't make me"
Street Vendor in Morocco and interestingly enough it was a pitch for a sale

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Preaching the word, across the great lands and oceans of this fragile planet of ours.
There are no boundaries in offering an outstretched hand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Too much to write, too little time.

Interests

Do what "IM" interested in, not what other people are interested in, I will not do something to be COOL.

Finding (or literally drawing) inspiration from everything around me. Just look closer and BINGO. Testing my imagination, see what I can transform things into. For now, its designing my own unique house, loft, warehouse or attic furnished with some wacky furniture that I conjure up in my head and with a touch of craziness. Plus making my own art for my place, why pay when you can create. Making use of the good ol line "one man's trash is one man's treasure" so finding free goodies is my hobby and reusing them into something fun.

Discover and learn things you can't find in a travel book that be the people and their culture. I rather learn from people (or from doing) than from books or at school.

Street/graffiti art, the people's uncensored voice. These hidden treasures reveal the heart of the city. You will never know when, where, why and who did them but these little clues of the city can give you an insight into what the people really think, from the serious issues to just plain stupidity which im fine with because it brings a smile to my face. Plus its so much fun stumbling upon them randomly scrawled across the city. It is these pieces of art (in opinion) that can reveal so much that words can not express. As simple as they may be, Ive found myself in numerous cities and on numerous days enthralled by these mini treasures that it wouldn't be a surprise where you will find me walking aimlessly for the whole day and my day would be complete.

Hitchhiking.
Couchsurfing on the road.
Test of patience and determination.

Preference of second hand clothes over the first hand ones. Its fun to find something totally random and different and of course the luck of finding it. Like a treasure hunt, but without a map.
Plus people of the past had wacky yet fantastic fashion and i just love combining them together with something new to make something unique and outrageous. I love colour, texture, pattern and style outload to the boring, plain and black that is considered "yawn" fashion. Oh i really dont like black!

Creative outlet.
Expression of thought.
Putting my thoughts down on paper, in the non-traditional sense, without words. Incorporate anything and everything.
Colour my life. Pencil, paint brush, spray can, makeup, whatever I can get my hands on.
Spontaneous drawing is sooo much fun.
Food, friends and fun.

My tea appreciation/obsession, oh how great they are. I can have numerous teas. My favourite is red chai masala.
Photography of life.

The science of the mind, Psychology.
Why must I smile in a photo?
Mind over body or body over mind?
Can creative talent be nurtured or is it natural?

Philosophy. I've been referred to as the philosopher.
I guess its just as simple as thinking.
Talk without thinking. Do you get unadulterated truth?

Religion. To be or not to be?

Nature, getting back to my roots.
How marvelous it is.

Try to meet up with all the friends I´ve made and go and visit them. On my way to see these friends, make more friends and try to meet up with them too. So pretty much travel, travel, travel.

Calvin and Hobbes. My inner child.

Try not to use too many cliches. The english vocabulary is sizeable enough for me to describe situations in my own words rather than using these lazy sayings. I like to be imaginative but just one problem, my vocabulary is not as comprehensive as I would like it to be, so it calls for me to build my repertoire, word by word.

Try not to procrastinate (but its real hard!)

Board games. Trivia. Fun!

Neverending quest to update my CS profile. I quite enjoy the challenge of trying to perfect it, yes perfection is a curse.

IF YOU HAVE MADE IT THIS FAR, I AM VERY PROUD.
THERE'S MORE TO READ, BOYS AND GIRLS =)

Music, Movies, and Books

Any movie that stimulates my mind and is not an old movie format repackaged as new. Some are Being John Malkovich, Dogville, No country for old men, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, pretty much Pixar, City of God, and much much more that also includes tv shows like Frasier, Nip Tuck, The Simpsons, Dexter, Extras, Daria, Whose Line Is It Anyways, The Sopranos, The Wire and more. Geez i sound like a TV addict but TV is bad, i rather make stuff instead.

As far as music, music performed live and is lyrically or instrumentally rich. I'm someone that once i start listening to music, i fall into a trance and i can't stop and will be happy just listening to it all day. I´m open to good music from every genre. Lets start from Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Gogol Bordello, Sigur Ros, Sonic Youth, Antony and the Johnson, Beck, The Lounge Lizards, Goran Bregovic, The Mars Volta, The Dumb Earth, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave, Alena Diane, Juzzie Smith, John Butler Trio, The Beatles, John Zorn, Fanfare Ciocarlia, That 1 Guy, Bjork, Squirrel Nut Zippers and and did i mention i enjoy GYPSY JAZZ, BLUEGRASS, PROGRESSIVE ROCK, CLASSICAL, BLUES, PSYCHEDELIC ROCK, WORLD MUSIC/FOLK/ROOTS and even better in combination and plenty more.

As for books, I´m interested in alot but I just never leave time to read them. I'm trying to read books that are of high standing for its contents and how thought provoking it is and used as the fundamental building blocks of books nowadays. I think you need to read these before you start reading anything related. So to speak, the foundations of a house.
One book i really enjoyed is Middlesex.

JUST A LITTLE MORE.
THE END OF THE RAINBOW IS NEAR.
IF YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH AND WANT TO RETURN TO GO, THEN CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TAP YOUR HEELS TOGETHER THREE TIMES. AND THINK TO YOURSELF, 'THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My life journey through Europe. It was the first time metaphorically my heart jumped a beat and also the first time i followed my instinct and it let me discover who i was and everything i love. Plus stretching a 3 month budget to an unexpected 12 months was definitely hard but led me to discover much more than money can offer.
A special mention goes to the country of Morocco (though not in Europe), I had an extraordinary time, beyond what I could have ever imagined or anything any travel book could recommended. My epiphany!

Joining Couch Surfing

Returning to the joys (and also the anguish) of hitchhiking.

Learnt why my brain is the way it is, to confuse people first but hopefully bring some joy through art making especially with sculpture (becoz i sux at drawing!)

Teach, Learn, Share

Share in my knowledge, my somewhat limited knowledge of the useless and useful that I´ve gathered over my life.

Learn anything and everything and somehow incorporate it into my artworks however weird it may seem.

Learn the languages of the world. To bridge a connection, is to converse in their language. Plus, I don't want to rely on English too much. In addition, improve my CHARADES skill set, because hand gestures can sometimes prove more helpful than simple words can not.

Learn from people and experiences, good and bad.

Learn the motion of the body in the form of dance. Tribal/indigenous dances that evoke joy are the best. Swing dancing also tingles my fancy at the moment.

Learn to put my imaginative creations into life. I need to learn to use my hands constructively rather than using it simply no more than typing on the keyboard. I wish these skills will allow me to build my perfect home as far as my imagination permits.

Learn the skills of a master veggie cook. In general, I need to be taught the basics of cooking to prepare me for bigger challenges. So I need someone patient to deal with me and tolerate my food. Ultimately someday I want to host friends to a magnificent banquet of my making =)
