About Me

I'm the baby of my family! I have two older sisters, and an older brother, whom I adore! My Dad is from Guatemala, and my mom is from Mexico.
I graduated high school June 2016, and was to the University of California Davis, where I'll be studying International Agricultural Development, Environmental Policy and Analysis, and Economics (as a minor). Since my acceptance, I've visited Cali 3 times, and have fallen in love each time! So it should come to no surprise that my decision to defer from my University for a year was far from easy, but I have zero regrets! Some times following the most worn path, is not always the best route. This year has taught me a lot, and I know there have been lessons I have learned that I would not have otherwise in my text books. The past few months have consisted of getting lost, exploring, and discovering... And the best part is: the journey is not even close to done!
Besides traveling I am managing a community greenhouse and garden, working as an academic coach at my old high school, and waitressing at an AMAZING restaurant called Fortina.
I stated my "about me" in very simple terms, mainly because I'd love the chance to have a conversation about all of this! In the process of sharing about myself I love to learn about others. So hopefully, one day, if our paths cross I'll be able to dive into more detail about all of this!

Next Adventure: Europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My sister bought me a book called "How to Travel the World on $50 a Day", and in this book Couchsurfing was highly recommended! On my gap year (2016-2017) I've been making an effort to travel when ever I have the opportunity to. Of course, traveling is not always cheap, so I try to budget by spending less on certain things so I can "splurge" when I need to (like on airfare). I've been using sites like Airbnb to find affordable accommodations, but I'm excited to give couchsurfing a try! I hope to one day give back to all the hosts that have welcomed me into their home by opening my doors for all as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's strange how I felt almost uncomfortable answering this question, but we should take pride in the things we are proud of! One amazing thing I have done is create a community organic garden at my old high school. All of the food grown is donated to students, families, staff, and local homeless shelters. We are in the process of renovating a campus greenhouse so that students from an alternative school housed on my old high school's campus can participate in the growing process. For many of the students from the alternative high school, the program is a second chance at school for them. I am excited to share all the beneficial aspects of gardening/growing with these students. Truly, tending to the land has made me a better person.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a master gardener... quiet literally! I am certified by the University of Connecticut (Uconn), so if you are having garden trouble, or would like to start a garden but don't know where to begin I'm here to help!
