About Me

I'm British, I went to Berlin when I was 18 for a gap year and liked it so much that I'm now on my 5th gap year. I fell in love with Berlin and now I'm travelling around to see what else is out there. I love travelling, I'm not much into sightseeing, I prefer sitting around in cafes drinking endless cups of coffee, and sketching everything I see. I'm a very sociable person and I love meeting new people. I come from a very small monocultural town in North England and meeting people from different places and cultures never loses its novelty for me.
I'm loving spending times in cities at the moment, but I still love spending time in nature, exploring, hiking, climbing trees. I grew up two minutes from the beach and I love the Sea above everything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love travelling, I hate holidays. It's such a shame to go to a place and not meet any of the people that live there. Everyone I've met on Couchsurfing has been so lovely and open, it's a really nice culture. Unfortunately I don't have a house to host people at the moment but that's something I'd love to do as well.

Interests

In my free time I love to do anything creative, I'm really into calligraphy and illustration at the moment, and I do a lot of writing. I don't really do any competitive sport but I like to stay active, I love hiking, swimming, climbing. I especially love dancing. I must have spend hundreds if not thousands of hours dancing to Techno in the four years I lived in Berlin. I also did kickboxing for a few months while I was in England, I'm really not an aggressive person but there's nothing more fun than kicking someone in the neck.
I'm very interested in philosophy and religion and one of the things I love most about meeting new people is learning about their beliefs/philosophies.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m going through a massive funk and disco phase right now but in general I have a very eclectic taste. I love jazz, techno, classical and almost anything made in the 80s.

I don’t watch many films or much tv but I like anything a bit twisted. My favourite film is the lobster, and I love gory 80's horror films.

I love to read, I’m normally reading about 3 books at once, fiction and non fiction, asking me to pick my favourite is like asking me to pick a favourite child.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I volunteered in a wildlife rescue centre. It was mainly cleaning out the cages of sick birds but it was amazing for me to be so close to these animals you would normally only see in the wild, and to hold them in my hands. I loved learning how to communicate with them, understand what they were feeling and letting them know that I wasn't a threat. It was mainly birds, seagulls, pigeons, chicks, kestrels, owls, geese, ducks etc. but also quite a few hedgehogs and bigger animals like pigs and sheep (all rescues). On my first day, while I was still learning, I was having a really difficult time trying to catch a wood pigeon when one of the squirrels jumped out of nowhere right onto my head and it was such a funny moment. Squirrels are one of my favourite creatures and to have one on my shoulder and to be able to feel it's tiny body against my cheek was really special.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm really interested in languages, so when I travel I like to learn at least a little bit of the language, enough so that I can order in a restaurant and say excuse me, thank you, things like that. Everyone knows something I don't, so anything that anyone has to teach me I want to learn.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm an English teacher so I can help anyone brush up on their English skills of course. I can be a partner in any outdoors or cultural activity, a sympathetic ear, I'm full of funny stories from my time in Berlin and my four years in Boarding school, and give one glass of wine and I'm the best karaoke partner you could wish for.
