About Me

Hello! My name is Nancy and I am living in Bristol. I'm on couch surfing for lots of reasons but one of them is I like the idea of choosing to connect with a person over paying to share a room with a lot of strangers... Which feels impersonal. I like the level of trust on couch surfing and find it fascinating to gain insights into others people's lives.
Everything is interesting when travelling - I would almost always rather walk or cycle or bus a journey over an uber uber. I like getting an idea of a cities culture/context when I visit it... I'm a bit of a romantic about travelling I guess.
I like making loose plans about what I want to see in new place. But am also happy detouring from the plan if something else comes up. I tend to spend a lot of time by myself... Not neceassily on purpose but it does mean I'm more than happy wandering around places alone or going for nice coffees with a book. This doesn't last long though and I am usually going a bit brain crazy by day 3 so it's a good to have a balance.. And there's a limit to how often you can go out for a beer by yourself.

Unfortunately I am unable to accept guests at the moment, as I am living in a family friend's flat so not my rules! When I move out I look forward to accepting some travellers and keep this couchsurfing wheel turning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting people! and seeing the hidden gems known by locals, that might otherwise be missed

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I feel like I can quite easily get into most music, espicially if it's introduced by someone who is suuuper passionate about it! I get second-hand-enthusaism.
My Spotify is a lot of funk and disco, though, or indie music, pop rock,
Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes, Fat Freddy's Drop, Antibalas, Alvvays, Nils Frahm, Beach House, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Tash Sultana, Jamie T, James Blake, Loyle Carner, King Krule, Vampire Weekend, Nina Simone, The Shins, Tame Impala, Tom Misch, William Onyeabor. I love a dance and on two separate occasions from two different groups (in two different countries) people have started calling me duracell like the battery that just keeps going.

Movies:
THE FLORIDA PROJECT. I looooove this movie. Submarine, Her, Nise, classic Disney, Wallace and Gromit, Black Mirror, Big Mouth, Natural Born Killers, Quentin Tarantino, Hitchcock, The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer, Oldboy,

Books:
Sapiens! I'm half way through and every page is blowing my mind. I'm also someone who starts a lot of books but rarely finishes them. At the moment I'm reading Ecstasy, Just Eat It (a book about intuitive eating), Please Kill Me ("the uncensored history of punk"), Advertising Shits in Your Head (a book about activism against advertising.... I love it), High Rise, Why We Look At Animals (John Berger) and The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of His Bedroom Window. This last one is my favourite fiction because its about this old man who escapes his nursing home on his 100th birthday and so far is very sweetly and very naively stealing suitcases of cocaine and accidentally getting mobsters killed.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My favourite time spent away was a 3 month break during my year studying in New Zealand, driving around the two islands and exploring beautiful places. One especially beautiful thing that happened was when our car broke down in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday, with a bank holiday Monday the next day. Luckily my boyfriend at the time and I had a tent and food and stuff to cook with, though, so it didn't matter that we were stranded for a while before a car mechanic could come. We were snorkelling one day and looking at all the life on the sea bed when I looked up and saw 6 or 7 seals about a meter behind my boyfriends head swimming around and looking super graceful. They were just checking us out and seeing what they were up to but it was so magical in that moment!
