ABOUT ME
Hello, I'm from Korea and I am a travel-lover. I have great passion for good food, I enjoy being exposed to new ideas, and I always try to stay away from the 'typical' because I like finding new possibilities. I studied and practiced design for many years and currently I am starting my own small business in design field! I hope to meet many new friends from different cultures and share good stories together.
PHILOSOPHY
NEVER REGRET! Everything happens for a reason.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I always look for something different than what's written in guidebooks. I'd be happy to share my best places in town, or to discover one.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first Couchsurfing experience was in Shanghai. I contacted this girl through CS website and she gladly offered her place. She showed me around the city and even treated me a wonderful Chinese dish (which was my first time tasting a frog!). Although I felt the time was a little too short for us to connect, but it was definitely a pleasant experience and I am looking forward to my next chance!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
An infinite curtain of green northern lights. I saw this on an airplane!
Teach, Learn, Share
I studied and practiced "design" for many years. When I say I majored in Industrial Design most people instantly come up with the idea of 'making things pretty'. Yes, beauty is one of the most important aspect of design but it is so much bigger than that.
In my definition, the word "design" covers anything that makes people's life happier and easier. So in this perspective beauty can be a minor thing. Engineers "design" new mechanism and computer programmers "design" new algorithm, which eventually improve people's lives to be more convenient.
Of course, making things (visually) beautiful is a big part of design practice. It is important to design fabulous evening dresses, or make websites look nicer. Visual aesthetics make people happy! But good looks won't make good design unless they stand on the basis of good usability. Nicely designed dresses should be comfortable to wear, and nicely designed websites should intuitively tell you which button to press.
So the important thing is to closely observe what people really need and want, paying attention to details of everyday happenings and usual objects around us. The start comes from the ordinary, but we need some serious work to create innovation that actually gives people new values.
Practicing design is more about reading people's thoughts/behaviors rather than beautifully styling things.
