About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Promoting my new English edition of the book _Human: Instruction for Use_.

ABOUT ME

I enjoy being with people and sharing all kinds of stuff. I am an excellent masseur and cook.

I'm a barefooter 99% of the time (even in the winter) -- wherever I go. I've been to 43 countries barefoot, including visits in the EU parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg and in the EU commission building. I met presidents, ministers, and mayors barefoot and even received writing awards. The positive side is I'm never asked to take off my shoes on the airport security check.

I wrote a bestselling book in Slovenian, called Human: Instructions for Use. It was first published in 2007, in 2018 it had its fifth reprint.

I was one of the initiators of Let's clean Slovenia in one day! project in 2009 and on April 17, 2010, 13,5% of the Slovenian population went out to clean up waste! We repeated the cleanup on March 24, 2012 with the approximately same results. I supported World Cleanup Day 2018 and we had 17 million people picking up waste and litter on September 15, 2018.

I really enjoy windsurfing and I do it whenever weather permits. I traveled to surf in Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Egypt, Hungary, and Austria.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to call it fecology -- it means stripping the human way of living of all of the cultural ballast. My research led me to a shocking discovery that toilet habits are exactly mirroring the craziness of our civilization -- and changing the toilet habits creates deep evolution in the entire life. All it takes is to SQUAT! :-) It may sound ridiculous, but it is actually truer than you could ever imagine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in a community with a lot of comings and goings of visitors, travelers, volunteers, groups, through various platforms (Global Ecovillage Network, HelpX, Workaway etc.), so there's hardly any CS hosting going on for me. I used to host quite a lot some years ago. I simply can't bare hosting more people that I already do. :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Until 2014 I mainly hosted others at my humble home. I met such interesting people from so many countries, it would be impossible to list them all. All I had to offer was a modest caravan, but most couchsurfers loved it.

As a traveller, I had truly amazing couchsurfing experiences: in Strasbourg, Atlanta, Freiburg, Bilbao, Tallinn, Riga, Skopje, Vienna, Cape Town etc. I was even hosted by a Couchsurfing fan in Shanghai, China.

Interests

In the last years my main passions are ecovillages and community building.

I also like windsurfing when the weather conditions are favorable. I enjoy a good movie and a good book, and I like to have a nice time with nice people. I run and hike occasionally, I like to swim and also do other sports.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of the movies: La Belle Verte, V for Vendetta, Forrest Gump, Ratatuille, Les Trippletes de Beleville, The Man Who Sued God, studio Ghibli animes by Miyazaki, Kumare, The Biggest Little Farm; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring Again etc.

I enjoy all kinds of good music with soul and genius.

I like books that deal with popular psychology and sociology (Erich Fromm, Alice Miller ...). I enjoy good fiction too. I loved Tom Robbins' "Jitterburg Perfume" -- particularly the quote: "The universe does not have laws. It has habits. And habits can be broken."

I loved Christopher Alexander's books on architecture.

Of all the writers on down-to-earth spirituality Anthony de Mello is my favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2009 I met the organizers of the project Let's do it, Estonia! They managed to get together 4% of the entire population (50,000 people) to clean the country in one day. I brought the idea back to my country Slovenia and played a key role in the coordination of the project. The result was getting together 270,000 people (13.5% of the population). Definitelly the most amazing thing I was involved in so far.

We repeated it in 2012 -- and in 2019 World Cleanup Day united 20 million people on one day in cleaning up trash in 180 countries.

In 2019, I've published my first book in English!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a group-dynamic facilitator, I like to share knowledge on group intelligence skills. I researched human anatomy for 20 years and like to share my discoveries and practices of natural living. I like to exchange knowledge on veg cooking (eastern style, traditional, edible wild plants, etc.). I like to exchange knowledge of massage.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A full basket of traveling stories, health advice from my books, relationship support, communication skills, recipes, I can even teach my hosts how to make a natural toothbrush: a chewing stick. When I travel, I enjoy preparing lunch or dinner for my hosts, sharing a bottle of good wine, taking care of their pets, babysitting, cleaning, doing laundry and dishes, gardening ... Having lived in communities for many years, I'm respectful of other people's space and I love to support the household to the best of my ability.
