About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel everywhere that I can and meet as many people from as many cultures as possible :)

ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is Natalie, I am currently living and teaching in Saar, Bahrain. I have been in Bahrain for the past 5 months and am planning to be here for the foreseeable future. I arrived in Bahrain after living and teaching in the crazy vibrant Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam for the past 2 years. I arrived in Vietnam after traveling South Africa and South East Asia for 5 months and living and teaching in Daegu, South Korea for 2 years. I am originally from a small town in South Africa called Somerset West, its very close to Stellenbosch which is the wine country of South Africa. I'm back here for a few months doing some part time work and enjoying my country before heading back abroad. I think I am a pretty easy to get along with person and I love to meet new people. Travelling for me isn't just about the places you can go but also about the people you meet, the cultures you can learn about and of course the great food you can sample along the way.
I love to experience new things so I try to challenge myself with something new as much as possible. Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new or do something different and I try to keep my life interesting by doing things outside my comfort zone and experiencing as much as I can.

I love to be with my friends, I love dancing (as terrible as I may be) and I love to laugh. Life makes me happy and every new person I meet adds something new to my life, I look forward to meeting many people through couchsurfing.

Live your dreams

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing provides the best opportunity to travel and really learn about the culture and food of the country you are travelling to. Meeting locals and having them show you around or give you some advice, in my opinion is the best way to travel.

I hope I can provide just this kind of experience if you couchsurf with me :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The few couchsurfing experiences I have had so far have been absolutely amazing. I have met so many interesting people with countless travel stories and anecdotes to share. I have had locals show me around their country and take me to places I would never have otherwise seen. I've met other travelers while couchsurfing and joined them on their trips. Mostly I have made friends that broaden my mind and give me a better understanding of all different parts of the world.
I couldn't recommend couchsurfing highly enough!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to all kinds of music. I don't know what's new , I probably couldn't even choose a favorite song. The music on my computer is years old and I have a record player in my room at home that is one of my pride and joys. Mostly I turn on the radio, stream playlists online and just listen. I may not be the most up to date or knowledgeable person when it comes to music but I enjoy almost every genre of it. Music makes me smile.

As far as books go, I LOVE to read. I went through a complete crime and courtroom drama obsession and read all the well known authors until I could predict almost every book I was reading.
Now my reading extends beyond that genre and I read whatever I get recommended or whatever I pick up that looks good. I couldn't possibly choose a favorite book because there are just way too many but some of the books I've read more than once include the Harry Potter books, Dan Browns books, The lovely bones, White Oleander, Kathy Reichs books, Patricia Cornwell, The stieg larsson series, a Love story, Jane Eyre and countless others.
A book I read recently that I would highly recommend is 'I am Malala', this book opens your mind to the struggles people face daily and how important education is in society and how most of us take it for granted. She is an amazing woman and how she didn't win the Nobel peace prize just blows my mind.
I love to collect books that I would one day like to put into my very own library but due to all my travels are now taking over a room in my parents home. Second hand book shopping may be one of my favorite past times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drove the crazy streets of Ho Chi Minh City everyday on my scooter for almost two years and somehow survived ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an English teacher so I can help you with he English language if you are interested. I also used to work in the Cape winelands so I can share some of my wine knowledge with you and teach you about the area and the culture of South Africa.

I love to learn so meeting new people is always great as I get to learn a little about a new person, country or culture. You can teach me any random fact or area of life you are particularly versed in, the more information the better :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm back in my home town, Somerset West, South Africa for a few months. Unfortunately I don't have space to host but I would be more than happy to show you around the Cape winelands, Cape Town itself and any other areas you would be interested in. I have brought many friends from abroad back to South Africa so I think I have quit an extensive knowledge of what you can see and do around and I love showing people around this beautiful country so let me know if you need a tour guide :)

There is so much to see, do and eat in this area and I would love to introduce you to it all. If you love wine, you have come to the right place :)
