About Me
Hi there,
I'm a young professional, open to traveling and meeting/enjoying others. Lately I've been traveling alot due to performing with a group called Cu Dubh, which is a bagpipe/drum ensemble that performs throughout the year all over North America. You can check out their website at cudubh.com. When not traveling, I call Boston home.
Otherwise, I work as a graphic/web designer. You can see some of my work posted at nate-silva.com. I also tutor in various subjects related to graphic design, including Abobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator, and HTML/CSS. I tutor people in bagpiping as well.
I'm also an avid sea kayaker, and I love going out on long excursions via kayak (25 to 30 miles in a day).
I don't smoke, drink socially (but carefully, I don't like getting wasted at all), and I steer clear of all/any drugs (including marijuana). I'm a very social, open person who is very considerate of those around me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Right now, I'm primarily here due to my constant travel with Cu Dubh. But I'm really open to the idea of hosting here in Boston, and meeting others as I travel. A friend told me about the site, and I signed up right away!

Music, Movies, and Books
Obviously anything related to traditional Scottish and Irish music is right up my alley, especially Cape Breton fiddling. I enjoy most folk music in general.
Otherwise, with pop music I tend to incline toward 90's and 00's alternative rock (311, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Nirvana), though I'm been getting more and more into electronic music genres lately (favorite examples include Bonobo, OTT, Shpongle).
Books, I like alot of the classics such as Gulliver's Travels, Brave New World, Lord of the Rings, Count of Monte Christo and Les Miserables. I also enjoy the Potter series, Hunger Games, and I'm starting to read some of Song of Ice and Fire.
TV/movies is similar to books. I'm open to most things except slasher films and films that are all special effects, and seemingly no dialogue/story.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Pretty much any performance I've ever had qualifies as an amazing moment for me, personally. Whenever I'm able to look out on a crowd and see people's thrilled faces, it fills me with joy to think I may have played a part in that.
Otherwise, I'm quite proud of some of my kayak excursions. I've paddled to pretty much every island in Boston Harbor, and my record distance in a day is 30 miles. One of these days, I'm going to push for 40.
Teach, Learn, Share
As mentioned, I tutor in various subjects related to graphic design, including Abobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator, and HTML/CSS. I tutor people in bagpiping as well.
In regard to kayaking, I actually now run a meetup site for kayaking around Boston. It goes mostly on hiatus in the winter, but I lead a number of outings from spring through fall each year. It's great to share the water with others in the area. Every outing is a new adventure.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm certainly happy to share whatever knowledge I possess, whether it be music, design, websites, etc. I love teaching and sharing knowledge.
