ABOUT ME

For the last five years I've been working in a variety of offices at Harvard University (Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Law School, and Kennedy School of Government) for my day job. I love being immersed in an institution of higher education, as there are nonstop opportunities to learn and investigate all different kinds of interests, and there's a constant energy of openness. It's never a dull time!

I am a biblical scholar and archaeologist; I have spent several summers excavating in Israel, and have received grants to do research on the Dead Sea Scrolls. I've also done fieldwork in Russia and the U.K. For the past eleven years I've been a frequent guest lecturer on biblical studies topics in Minnesota and Massachusetts in the U.S. To allay a common misconception: yes, I study the Bible but no, I am not a believer. Purely academic interest :)

Beyond my academic ventures, I've also been a professional singer for eleven years. These days I perform regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops; I've performed with a bunch of tour shows such as "Game of Thrones: Live Concert Experience" and "The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses" and have sang backup vocals for celebrated singers like Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Audra McDonald, and several tours with Josh Groban. In recent years I've become very involved with musical theater, and have performed numerous productions of Les Misérables (my favorite musical), among others. I travel to New York City to see Broadway shows on a regular basis. I've also been a karaoke host, and LOVE singing karaoke whenever the chance arises!

I'm certainly a product of 1980's and 90's American culture. I'm 38 and I still watch cartoons. When I'm not researching, writing, creating powerpoint slideshows, or performing in a show or concert, I love watching movies and tv shows on DVD/Netflix, and occasionally decompressing with some video games. Very easy-going, articulate, and sensitive. I like people and rarely have trouble getting along with others. I have a good sense of humor and like to smile a lot. Quite comfortable in my own shoes. I have very few fears and apprehensions. I love life and what it has to offer—I wouldn't trade roles with anyone in the world!

PHILOSOPHY

The "golden rule" is brilliant. We're all here to enjoy life, so why not be accepting and try to get along with each other?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed with some really cool cats in Giza, Cairo, Jerusalem, Reykjaví­k (several times), Copenhagen, Athens, Nottingham, Toronto, Zürich, and Oslo. I am constantly recommending couchsurfing to anyone and everyone—what an amazing way to travel! Looking forward to more surfing this summer!

While studying archaeology in Turkey, I was able to glimpse the earliest Christian inscription ever found—graffiti on a plaster wall that has been dated to 125 CE—something that very few people know about because it hasn't been published yet!

I have an immense knowledge of academic biblical studies—things that most people sadly aren't aware of, which I'd be happy to share, if you're interested. I enjoy studying the topic of ancient Near Eastern crossover (myths, laws, and narrative) found in the Old Testament, and have given many guest lectures on the subject, as well as the intricacies of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
